Guess I'll throw my hat in the ring.First of all let's all forget about Alt.The things this guy said about hunters and the PGC after leaving his position lets him with no credibility in the hunting community what so ever.He bashed us all in a newspaper in anti hunting territory which does alot of damage to our past time. The guy is no friend he is foe.
And there's other groups that want to put an end to deer hunting because they don't want to share the forest with us.Can you blame them?I guess not but I'll be danged if I'm going to help them.
Let's face it.We are not going to recruit young hunters who have to hunt on these state lands with 12 dpsm or less.Plus we'll lose the hunters we have. Will it hurt us who are left? You bet because this movement isn't stuck only in PA it's in states accross the US and the less hunters we have the more our voice shrinks. In the end we'll lose our right to hunt to what they say is saving the habitat.
And in the end as these groups against deer push for old growth forests and acid rain and the soil remain the same regen won't increase as they hoped.YOU HAVE TO OPEN UP THE CANOPY!I will post pics of great regen of white oaks in various stages in an area rated at 38 dpsm. It's in the open canopy and just 50 yards away in the shade theres no new growth.
Am I asking to see 50 deer a day?Nope. But I am asking that we keep deer hunting alive with a huntable population. You get below 15 dpsm and you don't have that.Oh there's a few die hards that will do it but very few. Here's a note to the groups and people who want all or 99% of the deer dead.DEER ARE A NATURAL EQUATION IN THE FOREST ECO SYSTEM AND YOU NEED TO LIVE WITH THAT.These un natural populations you want will also affect other populations.Let's start with the bear.
Deer belong in the forest.Maybe not naturally in the high populations of the past but they do belong.Deer pellets make great fertilizer for the oaks.Gotta go,my finger is tired.
