If you just want pictures of deer, and it is legal, then putting out corn will do the trick.

If you are wanting to use the camera to help you scout, I would shy away from the bait.

Use your scouting instinct to locate what you consider travel corridors and set your cameras up in these areas. This will give you a good indication of the numbers of deer using your property as their summer home range. Move your cameras and try different areas....even those you don't necessarily think are, but could be, good spots.

Your cameras can really help you learn about how deer travel through your hunting territory which should pay off for you come fall.
