Hunter4life it is not fair to compare a 243 which is a small bullet high velocity cartridge and 30-30 which is a slow big bullet at 10-25 yard range. I mean c'mon we all know whats gonna win that one. I bet that 30-30 will do better at 10 yards than a 30-378 weatherby magnum but thats beside the point. For the arguments sake keep it fair and balanced. The 243 is by no means a short range cartridge and is better at past 75 yard or so. However if youve ever seen one used correctly I do not think youd have the oppinion you do on a 243. I do not think u can tell me that 100 grain soft point out of a 243 will kill a deer everytime if you put it where its supposed to be.
Let's just end this thread with "its on the light side, but it will work".
Light for elk, just fine for deer. Well said roskoe.
o have i seen it used correctly on deer and i'm still not impressed by that gun, the only kinda game i would use that gun onis varmints or stag deer out in new zeland!!!!!!!!! And not only have i seen a 30-30 do damage up close i have seen it do some damage at 150 yards. At 150 after i shot my deer and i went to go "gut" it i looked to see where i hit it and where i hit that deer(mule der to be exact) i stuck my fist into the enter hole. and i still had room for my other fist to be put in there side by side(and no i'm not exagerating at all this is a true experience), so unless a 243 is capable of doing the same i might us that on whitetail, but most likely Varmints!!!!!!
