Default RE: hog hunting

Nice looking hog 98.
I always like the spot and stalk, but move slow and use the wind to your advantage as you can cover more area like this and also you can even hear them a lot of times. Slipping up on a group of hogs fighting one another with a bow is a real rush. Look for hog rootings and they'll usually be back in the early morning. Lot of times you can smell them. Slipping up on a group of hogs is more difficult then trying to get within range on just one. When the hogs head goes down to root, make your move at this time because when his head come up, he's listening for you and then your busted. Be patient and wait for your shot as the big boars will have a caluised shoulder blade and penetrating it not going to happen unless you wait for a quartering shot and shoot just behind it. The best grilling hogs are around 45 to 75 lbs and if they get up too around 200 lbs, I would just make sausage out of it. I never tried baiting for them but then again I never had no need to as the hogs were usually more of a nusuiance and would interfer with my deer hunting. Good luck, Bobby
