thats good about the turkeys there scott and it's bad enuff to hear them and then it snows thats what hate about when it rains here i can hear alot of turkeys but i can't seem to get out in the blind uless i get soaked and wet and then my calls don't work then so i hope it takes and warms up for you scott

ya, ours are strutting all day and gobbling hard all morning but they aren't coming to calls yet here. i expect the jakes and real old toms that get kicked out of the group to be the first to call in soon. in 3 weeks we should be able to start working the "in their prime" toms. we are also expecting snow and cold weather for a week, this will set our turkeys back a week.

the problem here in the early season here isour massover population of turkeys. most groups are around 100 turkeys, we have 2 groups between 300-600. we don't hunt the larger groups till a later split up, we try to hunt the properties with only 50 birds or so split into a couple smaller groups because they can be called in much easier. to hunt the big groups right nowwould onlyeducate a lot of birds and you would have to have their patterns down.

the camp photos are awesome, that would be great "lost horn".

sounds great martin my season is goin to be easy as pie because i went yesturday and i called in some good size toms and i hopeing i got my blind in a good place and i hopeing to get one this saturday

thanks long horn the first one i made was just tempary now we got a good one to have for the rest of the year and i hope i do too long hornif i don't i'll just take a good sleeping pil and go to sleep that way

well i had one comeing in untill it stared raining and they took off running and i don't know why i didn't move or any thing but i had that big ol gobbler comeing like a kid afther candy and it was pretty too but when it started raining they all took off running for some strange reason well afther it was all over i got up and forgot to put my turkey call in my pocket and it fell to the ground and i took and stepped on it dang i got mad but i got a back up cody slate call comeing in monday and i'll be back out there and getting at it again

that sounds like a good morning still. breaking your call sucks though.

if you were using a decoy, that could be the problem. i only use taxidermy decoys now because i have watched plastic ones catch the sun light wrong sometimes or get wet and all the sudden the toms freak out.

it wouldn't be hunting without a little challenge. good luck on your next hunt.

yea i was useing a pretty boy and pretty girl decoys but i got a other call comeing monday and it's goin to be a good hunt afther i get iti'll have one come in again like a kid afther cady lol

well, it would be alright, but it fits deer hunting rather than turkey hunting. i am content with what we have now.

oh ok well the hunting is going good untill i have to get a other call i went out yesterday and had a few gobblers comeing in untill it started raining and then the just up and ran off i don't know what happent to them i know i didn't move or anything i might have get some new decoys or somehting

ALRIGHT!!!!! this saturday (april 4)is opening day for youth (which i can hunt). And............. i just got my new gobble tube made by primos today, which i hope will get thoose henned up toms away from the hens and bringthem right to me.

Sorry guys, I've been MIA for a bit. Tomorrow is opening day for bowhunting here in Kansas. Hopefully the weather that we have had here doesn't have them too screwed up. I'll be hunting in the morning. Here's to hoping I come back with a big ol' tom to get us on the boards!

good luck. we have noticed that the weather did set the birds back a little bit, but we have seen some jakes being kicked out of the groups now.

i will bring my camera this weekend and try to take pictures of the turkeys.

i got pretty lucky with my call. it's the betterbirddogs model. they are pretty hard to find....unfortunately you can'tfind them at your local wal-mart or sporting good store.:D

These are some of the calls that wapitiscott makes, he gave me one of the turtle calls last year, that's the one I used to call my gobbler in last year, this year he gave me one of his fince post calls to use it sounds great, hope it is good as the turtle.:D

Well, guys....here's the report....Our opening day was a good one, but unfortuately, I didn't get a bird. They were making all sorts of noise this morning, gobbleing and yelping. Had tons of turkeys around us. Had a nice tom come in, but was outside of my comfortable shooting range with the bow, so I let Betterbirddogs take the shot. (There is a sweet video of it(courtesy of yours truly) on the team 1 thread) He sure laid the smack down after that warning shot! Then had a couple other toms heading in across the field, but a group of 4 jakes came in and the toms scattered. Didn't see much else this morning. Then when our nephew got home from school, we packed up again to take him out for his first hunt (ever). Saw some turkeys crossing the road as we were pulling up to the spot so we high tailed it and got set up. Sat there a few minutes and they started gobbling right behind us! A few more minutes and they were running straight for our strutting tom decoy to show him a thing or two (and boy did they!) He blasted his first ever turkey on his first ever hunt! He was excited and we were proud! There is a sweet video of that under the main turkey forum. I think it is titled "nephew's first turkey hunt (video)" Be sure to check out that amazing footage! (Again courtesy of yours truly) I am beginning to think that the only reason I went today was to run the video camera! That's ok.....It was awesome to be a part of a kids first hunt and watching him take his first turkey. We will be back at it this weekend with Yardbird78, so hopefully I'll get my chance then!

Hopefully that smack down happens this weekend. We will be hunting in the same place that I got my first turkey last year. Hopefully that brings us some good luck!
