I was out in a new spot Saturday about noon, brought along abox call I made that AM. Called a bit and waited a few minutes. 3 Jakes came in and wandered around me. As they moved offI called again and the largest one gobbled. They came back and hung around, sometimes only 5 yards from me. I finally got up but they would not spook. I called to them while standing there and the big one gobbled every time. I just walked off and left them after a few more minutes. It was pretty cool.

Season starts 4/22, so I'll be back there at some point. I'm sure there are bigger birds around too. I knowof some mature birds in another spot that I'll be targeting opening day.

They're starting to pile up now. I'm planning to hunt this Wednesday AM or PM depending on weather.

here is my Black Hills Meriam
22 lbs
9 in beard
3/4" spurs Right and Left
NWTF score is 55
I got to the Hills on thurs afternoon and it was raining and nasty but went and sat in a spot to observe movement and roosting for friday. At the end of the afternoon the flock came out and started feeding turns out they fed right to me and I shot this bird at 15 yds. Great trip even though the bird and I were soaked.
