Team 3: Sunrise Demise
 

Well this is it fellas. I'll say right off the bat, I'd be glad to be a captain. I spend lots of time on the site and I'd be glad to help out any way possible.

So anyways-- introductions..

I'll be spending a ton of time in the woods this spring and I'll be hunting in PA. My season starts April 25th and runs through May 25th I believe. I'll most likely have my second tag as well. I'm already watching the turkey videos and practicing my calling skills. ;)

Teams were chosen a little earlier than I thought. Looks like we have a pretty good team. I'll be hunting south Texas on opening weekend, March 21-22,and then my property in LA. the rest of the season. My season in LA.opens March 28.I may go to Tennessee sometime in April for a few days. Fingerz, I have no objections about you being captain. As far as I'm concerned, if you want it, you got it. If anyone else has their heart set on being captain, I guess we could vote. As for a team name, bring on some suggestions, and we will vote. Hope everyone has a great season.

it doesnt matter to me who is captian, as long as they keep up with things... ill be hunting in ky from April 18th thru May 10th, ive got two tags and i hope i fill them both... as for a team name i have no idea, and if anybody has seen the sticker poll mine is number 4... hope you all vote

Its fine with me if you want to be Capt. I'm OK with it. i'll be hunting in Texas on several properties as well as taking a trip to Kansas. I'll be bowhunting this season.

This is mossberghunter93 checkin in ill be hunting in southwest Ohio with a shotgun. my season starts April 17 and ends May 17 I think. So I got a month to make it happen. Also Im 15 and I have never been turkey hunting before so I hope you guys can tutor me a little if I need some help.

Hey everyone, I'll be hunting in Florida and the season runs from March 21 thru April 26th. There's a season limit of two birds here but I just started turkey hunting last year. I still haven't killed my first turkey yet but I did miss one from about 15 feet away last year.[:@]I had so much fun that I just bought a Remington 870 camo turkey gun and a jellyhead choke two weeks ago. I've been hunting everything else for 36 years so I'm not new to hunting, hopefully that'll help me bag my first gobbler. I drew a permit for the first part of the season at Buck Lake WMA in Mims, Fl. There are9621 acres and only20 hunters with permits, I'm really pumped.

TEmbry checkin in here. I will get an early jump on the thunder chickens chasing them around AL for 3 days March 20-23. 3rd season down there, so I finally know the farm...and to be honest, will be pretty upset with myself if I DON'T kill a bird or two there.

Hunting AL and KY for sure this spring. Have plenty of access here in KY, will likely bowhunt most of the season, but still throw in the shotty to mix things up.

IDC who is captain, and any team name will work. Looks like a solid lineup, look forward to getting to know you fellas a little better!

I have a hunch this will be my best turkey season to date the way things are looking up right now...and it can't get here quick enough!

Good, good. Well it seems as everyone has signed in but johnny and I checked his profile and he hasnt made a post since december 18th, so I'm not sure if he is an active member anymore. We will find out, and if not, then we'll be given an alternate.

We're looking good so far, I think we should have a good season.

We're in no hurry for team captain and team names, I was just throwing idea's out early so we dont rush it all in the end. April 25th cant come fast enough..

Well I dont have very many turkeys were I live but I plan on hunting with my friend on his parents land were there are quite a few of them. No gobbles yet but I have seen a fair amount of tracks. BTW how many turkeys can be entered?

"Only one bird per hunter is used for this contest to determine High Team standings. Multiple birds shot by any one hunter, the hunter has the right to upgrade his score as the highest score can be used to replace a previously registered harvested bird. New this year will be an Overall Team standing using all birds taken by any one team. We will also try to keep record for the best Rio, Eastern, Merriam, or Osceola so make sure you tell us the specie.
Only birds harvested during any given state’s Spring Season taken in an ethical manner under “Fair Chase” using either a Shotgun (Conventional or Black Powder) or Bow can be entered. "


Okay, so in short only one bird will be counted for "High Team" standings, but you can enter ALL birds you kill for an OVERALL team score. So enter all of the birds you kill for the overall score, but make sure your biggest bird is entered for the High Team score.
This will all be more clear once everything gets started up.

Just don't get hung up on what you find with this early scouting. Birds patterns will change DRASTICALLY from now to mid/late April. Where they are gobbling early-mid march might be fruitless come season.

I usually dont start scouting hard until the first of April, for our area, this is just as the flocks are breaking up and spreadin out...can really help find a certain gobblers range/patterns once those flocks scatter.

Yeah here in upstate Pa we still have quite a bit of snow. They are still in flocks and will be until mid to late March I suspect. I saw a group of around 50 yesterday on my way back to college. Saw a couple beards hanging real low too.

Mid March is just about season down here, so any of the birds gobbling now will be in my general area come opening weekend, which is March 28. I can imagine it's a little early for you guys up north though. On my property, if I see a gobbler in the Fall, you can bet he will be around come Spring. I have a flock of hens that stay on or close tomy poperty year round.

After the Kill - Posting Appropriate Pictures for the Contest

The rules state,
"1.Team members must post a picture of their turkey to prove authenticity of the kill.
2. In the Picture add a ruler next to beard and each spur
3. A brief story along with statistics is welcomed. "

So, in short, this means we need FOUR pictures total. Or if you can combine the spurs and beard all in one picture with rulers next to each of them that would work and you would only need to take two pictures.

1. The bird and you in the picture.
2. The beard with a ruler next it.
3. Each spur with a ruler next to each.

Please pay special attention to this after the kill. Any bird that is taken must be properly processed or it WILL NOT count for this contest. Remember to get measurements, then take the appropriate pictures. Don't wait until its too late and say "I didn't know."

Well in the next couple days we need to make an official captain, and an official name before others try to steal. So far Sunrise Demise leads the votes. Make an official vote here soon and lets get it set in stone.
