Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Hevi-Shot is a duplex load

Has any one else read the article on duplex loads in the March issue of Turkey and Turkey Hunting Magazine? According to the article, Hevi-shot "does not fully separate each shot size by ridged standards." In other words, if you buy a box of #6's, the shot in the load will actually range in size from #5's to #7.5's.

Wouldn't that technically be illegal in a state that requires shot sizes to be #4 - #6? I am sure Hevi-Shot #7.5's are more leathal then lead #7.5's, but I wonder if other companies are able to mix loads like that?

Sling, good question. Some states don't allow #2 shot at all for turkey hunting(who would use that man killing shot anyway?), and most states insist #4 shot and smaller to be used. I've read a similar article about Hevishot not conforming to strict size requirements. But seriously, I don't think it would really matter in my opinion.

In Minnesota, you can only use size 4,5,or 6 shot. Nothing smaller or larger.

Its true, after reading the article I cut one open for myself and seen that there is a degree of variance in shot size. I've been a big fan of Rem. 4 X 6 duplex load and recently broke down and bought a box of 3" Hevishot #6 and try patterning it with my Rem mod choke. Company says it should pattern ~86% which is good enough for me at 35 yards.

Don't believe duples shot is illegal in GA, here is the excerpt from the Georgia DNR websight

"Shotguns with No. 2 or smaller shot and any muzzleloading rifle."

Nothing there but that.
