Default nap quick tune

A friend of mine just got a new used bow and it has a NAP quick tune rest on it . What does increasing or decreasing the
rest tension do for tuning purposes ?

It effects how forgiving the prongs are while the arrow is riding down them when released. The arrow does not travel straight when released. With a release aid normally it is flexing up and down as it leaves. You wan the rest to able to give and flex with the arrow as this happens.

Most suggest setting the rest tension so it has just enough tension to hold up the arrow at full draw. It can be a little stiffer than that and still perform well though, especially if you are shooting slightly nock high.

Too stiff of a spring tension will cause all sort or problems though and make tuning a pain in the butt. When the arrow leaves and forces the rest down it will have enough tension to bounce back up or force the arrow back up and change the path of the arrow. It will also make it hard to diagnose a nock low setting. Since the tension is so stiff if you are nock low it will throw the prongs down and they fly back up before the arrow leaves making it look like a nock high problem, not a nock low one.

A light spring tension will also be more forgiving of contact issues with the fletchings.

At least this is how I have always set them up.

Paul
