Default Barnes Triple Shock

Hey, anyone out there loaded the 180gr triple shock for the 300 ultra mag? If so, what kind of results are you getting, what powder and how much? Also, what did you seat the bullet at? Thanks for any help.

Sure have!

Great results! 95 grains of R25 produced .4" five shot groups at 100 yards last week. These bullets shoot! Loads averaged just under 3400 fps. The weather got too hot for me to keep shooting however (90 degrees in the shade). R22 did very well also but produced more fliers. Could' ve been the heat. Could' ve been the heat' s effect on me. I worked up to 91.5 grains of R22. I load all of my rounds just short enough to fit in the magazine (I forget the exact length). I' m shooting a Remington Sendero w/ 26" barrel.

I just ordered my second box from Midway.

I tried to catch one of these bullets with milk jugs at 300 yards. It didn' t work. I' ll try again and post my results on expansion.

Oh yeah, I' m lightly crimping mine with a Lee factory Crimp Die.

had good luck with the 168 grains XXX in a 300 weatherby using H1000. I am about to try the same powder with the 168 XXX in a 300 Ultra I should know something in a couple of weeks

Barnes website says to load up to 1-2 grains over the max for the regular x bullets. I have loaded up some in RL25 from 86gr to 91gr but have not been to the range yet. Hey Recoiljunky, were you getting any signs of excessive pressure at 95gr of RL25?

Well I have settled on 93.5 grains H1000 with the 168 grain XXX in the 300 ultra. I am not getting any signs of pressure and these will shoot consistently an inch and under before the rifle warms up. This load is still slightly under the max load for the 165 grain regular X which is what I used as a starting point. I started by looking at 90.5,91.5,92.5, and 93.5 and the last loads seemed ok with maybe a hint of flattening on the primer. It shoots so I am keeping it since I leave for CO elk and deer in a little over a month.
