Barnes TSX Seating Depth
Question about Barnes?? Theyreccomends starting at .050" off the lands and further suggests .030 - .070 for seating depth for best results.Curious what are other TSX shooter's finding/using? Following or deviate to what you found works in other bullets!

RE: Barnes TSX Seating Depth
For shooting in my semi-auto rifles, I just load them so that the last groove is just covered by the case mouth on a case that is trimmed to SAAMI minimum. For the .308s I use in 168gr, this makes their OAL a little under the standard .308 OAL. I really don't know what the distance from the lands are in either my M1A or Win Model 100..................but these shoot really well like this.
Personally, with the 3 grooves on this bullet, I think getting all 3 of those grooves in the case mouth is more important than distance from the lands - as the extra contact with the mouth will improve neck tension on the bullet and give it a straighter start down the bore.

I tried seating Barnes X bullets .050" from the riffling, and did not obtain great accuracy using .30 cal. 180 gr., and 200 gr. bullets. I set the bullets .010" from the rifling and received groups under .75" groups. I have had the same experence with .270 cal., 7mm cal., and .338 cal. I believe the use the .050" measurement isdue to saftey percautions, but if one works up the load slowly there should be no problem. Good luck.

Herman, I’m very interested in the results from the TSX in your 270wsm but can’t seem to find the accurate loading form. Can you point the way...
