Default PA blackpowder season

This is almost going as bad as the rifle season. I did finally get to see some deer. I jumped them in some thick stuff and never did see what they were let alone get a shot. Later in the day I finally had 2 deer coming to me. I got ready and as the first one got within 20 yds I saw the 2" spikes on his head. Damn - illegal deer. Ok - I'll wait for the second one to move in to a shooting lane. You guessed it - another spike buck. They finally picked me up. Not sure what I was so they turned around and walked away the way they came.

That's great! The antler restrictions are working.
Those two will be nice bucks next year and maybe you will kill one.
In pre-ar those two would have been toast on the first day.
Spikes are late born fawns, they are probably twins also.
A spike will catch up in antler development in the following year.
There have been spikes in captivity that grew 10 point racks the following year.

Actually 2" spikes makes them antlerless deer by the law and therefore legal with the muzzleloader. Congrats on passing them up.

Wow, I missed that one Bob!

Yes, they qualify as antlerless, and kudos to you for passing them!
