My brother has a Steyer in 7mm-08 and loves it. He has said for years that the .308 cartridge makes the best base for hunting loads in any caliber.
From the .243 to the .358 they all seem perfect for deer and the larger ones for blackbear and elk. The choice of bullets did keep the 7mm-08 back a bit IMO. I personally shoot a .308. Look at the picture for the effect of both on deer. I'm on the left and my bro on the right.
