A guy i know is selling his sears model 53 bolt action rifle which is like the winchester modle 70 in 30-06. he had a gun book that told him the value of his gun was around the value of the winchester model 70. The gun is in nice condition mabey 90% but i'm no expert. In my book "the gun traders guide" it says it is $229 nib $153 in exelent condition and $112 in good condition. He says he is $350 firm and i like the gun but don't wana get ripped off. What do you guys think?
Seems to me that Sears Winchesters were marketed after the switch was made in 1964, ('67 or '68 I think). If it shoots well, it might be worth what you'd pay for a good usedhunting rifle. I don't think it'd be worth much as an investment.I'd go with the Gun Trader's Guide recommendation.
I Have a 53 in 270 Win. I Bought it for 175.00 with 3x9 Tedwilliam scope. I tookthe scopeoff bought a Synthetic ramline stock for a Win Model 70 on ebay for 20.00. Replaced the scope and have a no frills deer rifle for under 300.00. I shot 4 deer with it this year. I am not the label buying guy. In reality it is a model 70. I bought it from a girl who's dad had passed away and she had it in the closet for along time. I figured I could not replace it for that.
