Though i havent seen it posted in any hunting or gun literature from my experience the list would have to look something like this in no particular order
I would probably knock out the 300 Weatherby, and the 7mm-08 and replace with the .223 Remington and the .22-250. Another that may fall close in there also would be the .338 Win Mag.

Last Top 10 list I looked at was several years ago, but went like this:
1. 30-30
2. 30-06
3. 270 Win.
4. 243 Win.
5. 308 Win.
6. 7mm Rem. Mag.
7. 300 Win. Mag.
8. 35 Remington
9. 25-06 Rem.
10. 280 Rem.
Have my doubts the 35 Rem. is still in there, but then there's a lot of rifles out there chambered for it, and used every year.

Oh heavens, HighDesertWolf, 7.62x39 made his top ten? Tough neighborhood! :-)
(Kid joke: A panda bear went into a restaurant, ordered lunch & ate it up. Once finished, he brandished a .44 and put a round smack dab throught the coffe pot. He then headed out the door. The manager, with much concern, hollered "Why'd you do that?" Panda replied: Look it up."
So the restaurant manager looked it up... Panda Bear: indigenous to China; eats shoots & leaves.

7.62 x39 is a pretty common ammo for plinking, with SKSs being cheap, good, and widely available, it wouldn't suprise me if it were in the top 10.
I doubt it would register on the radar as top 10 ammo sold by manufacturers as alot of people buy it in bulk as surplus ammo from other countries. I would imagine in that case, 7.62x54r and 8x57 wouldn't be all that far behind in ammo consumption when you consider that alot of this ammo can be had for less than $0.10 per round.
