Default Traditions Pursuit XLT

Anybody here know anything about the Traditions Pursuit? My buddy just picked one up with a camo thumbhole stock and a nickle barrel. Has a 4x7 Bushnell mounted on it. He only paid $100.00 for it.

IMHO it's worth about what he paid for it, my opinion of Traditions (based on personal experience having owned 2) is not high.

That said, quality aside it MAY be reasonably accurate. My last one was a MOA shooter.

I've never owned one. Came mighty close when I was shopping for my first in-line, but ended up with a Lyman Mustang. I really did like the feel of the Pursuit though. Over the last year following three different forums, I would estimate that reports on the Pursuit are about 50/50 positive and negative. Most guns average a little better on the positive side, but for a hundred bucks it's probably worth finding out for yourself. It might turn out to be a jewel.

$100 is a great deal! I wanted one of them a couple years ago.

YUP:

1) Traditions Deerhunter (1st ML) - could hang the gun from the trigger while cocked and it wouldn't fire. Had a gunsmith friend work over the sear and liked the gun after that. Friend bought same gun a couple years later and the whole thing was crap.

2) Lightning LD (1st inline) - pull 10lb+ from the factory. Adjusted it down and found out there was a fine line between reasonable pull and firing unexpectedly when the safety was flipped off. Led to a couple very bad surprises and I swore off every buying one again. Adjusted the trigger back to 10lb and sold it with full disclosure. It was accurate though.

I must say I'm the odd man out. All my deer guns are Traditions (3 Lightning Bolts) and I've never had issues with them. They are excellent shooters and I've never tinkerd with the triggers, etc. as they are all non adjustable. Mine love the 250 grain Shockwaves with 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets (2) 50 grainers. I have a Busnell Banner Scope 3X9 with a 40mm lens that can really help in low light in the morning and evening. I can punch a 2" group at 100 yards all day. Good guns if you take care of them and do your part. Heck with Knight going out of business that would be my other choice,I just cannot afford them fancy TCs all the shows shoot. You can buy several Traditions, CVAs, you name it to their one gun and have the same results. It does not matter the name on the gun, if you put down gamecontinuously so be it.I know a fellow that has to buy all TC and Matthews products when they come out and his kids have the minimal nessecities. Don't be one of those morons. That gun is a shooter I guarantee. Did he get it from an auction or is it brand new? Either way clean it up properly and test rounds is all you can do to see what she likes.I would jump on that deal as well.

I guess it depends on your expectations. Mine was accurate enough, but I was shooting a lot at the time and after only 2 years (maybe 400 shots) the nub they called a firing pin on the plunger wore down until it would no longer ignite 209s. It's still in service with a guy who shoots half a dozen bullets a year (checks zero, takes it hunting), but for someone who shoots any real amount no way.

Thanks guys for the input. He bought it from someone who needed $$ Says it looks like new. We will have to get it out to shoot and see.
