Ok i live in pennsylvania , and today 2 kids were booted from school because they were wearing shirts witht he confererate flag on them. I personally think it is outrageous , and jsut because someone likes the south or being a redneck does not give the right for the school to descriminate on them ,

It all started when a stupid black girl started bitching jsut to hear herself bitch , she said the kid wore it jsut to make her mad , meanwhile she starts stuff with everywhite kid there is in all of her classes just to make us get in trouble , personally i hate the girl , and wouldnt mind seeing her hit by a train. She really needs to watch herself some might say , due to our school having only 6 or 7 blacks and the other 100 or so all white. There are 1 or 2 blacks at our school that noone minds and even people get along with , im not racist , but i personally have a FINE line between just black folks and the other word u call them...

So what do you all think , is the school wrong for punishing us for wearing a shirt that shows our respect for the southern heritage , or are we wrong for wearing them to school? Personally , id say bet your piggy banks on it taht i will ahve a X on my shirt tommorow. Also diie outfitters online store has a nice article on school protest on shirts , and i agree with it 110%. i may even purchase one of the shirts from there that say "offended by school censorship of southern heritage"

I personally don't see where the school can suspend somebody for wearing a shirt. As long as the shirt complies with the dress code, they should be able to wear it whenever they want. They should be able to at least protest it to the school board, and as long as they didn't do anything to anybody then they should be let back in school. It is outrageous!

im not to far from you double lung and i personaly got in trouble for the flag about 4-5 months ago at butler county vo-tech. i take culinary arts there and we were having a cake decorating contest so i made a motorcycle cake and put the confederate flag as the design on the gas tank when the teacher saw it she fliped out and called the principal and this whole big thing started they were going to suspend me for 10 days unless i changed the design. knowing that my mom would kill me if i got kicked out even for that i changed it by puting a few more blue lines on it and making it look like the british flag. i think its stupid for them to be able to tell me i cant display it theres a kid that has a rebel flag wallet and belt buckle up there and wears them everyday and never gets in trouble for them i took a picture before i defaced it and a picture afterwords and i'll post them as soon as i can.

a quick check of your school's dress code will settle the matter . The school is entitled by law to establish reasonable dress codes , or even unreasonable ones if the Board of Education chooses . If said code specifically prohibits display of the rebel flag then it is their perogative to make the student remove the offending article or suspend them . I think it bites too , but that's what the law says .

I used to catch some grief for some of the things that I wore to school , and I didn't like it either , but they were well within their rights on every occasion because what I was wearing didn't meet the code . The era that I grew up in was a lot more laid back than yours , we never heard of PC because folks weren't as thin skinned back then , so you have my sympathies .

The school dress code as i checked in the student handbook today has nothing in it about any flags , the only thing it has is that you arent allowed to practice your religion in school , so what is the big deal with the flag, just because a few *****s are mad , well what about when they speak in their little black lingo , you all know what i mean " what up dog , common cuz , yo , dawg" well that offends me , also the clothes they were , shorts halfway down their asses , its jsut pissing me off , and im not gonnd take it , thats y im wearing a confederate shirt every day for the next week or 2 of school , and i jsut gonna flash it in the faces of all of them , cuz i printed that thing out that says its unconstitutional to discriminate against the views of confererate supporters , so guess what , my principal can suck the end of my .270 for all i care , im wearin it and thats final , if he wants to send me on a vacation , he can, but he wont put me outta school for long , cuz once that happens the local news would surely like to talk of the issue.

Ok this is the big reason schools and people don't like the flag.. The south had slaves... and the rebel flag is a southern flag.. So blacks and other people who are all uneducated about the matter thinks that flag supports racism and slavery.. When it actually is just a battle flag for the south..

Both sides of my family are from the south. Its a heritage thing, yankees just dont get it. It says in my school dress code that rebel flags and "other controversial symbols" shall not be worn, but everybody always wears confederate clothes anyway and nobody cares. Theres only 1 and 1/2 blacks in our school, and countless wiggers[:'(][:'(]

Although that IM a " YANKEE" i do have alot of views tho that i think the confeds. were right on , but it doesnt matter , we are united as one now , and it beter that way , and im not out to cause racial tension even tho i cant stand blacks , but we will jsut have to see , i will not let this issue go , if they try to kick me out , most of you will prolly see something about it on the news. many different groups say taht it is unconstitutional to ban the flag , but i find it perfectly normal .

The reason we r getting turned into the office is that ---- Both blacks and a few whites ( all the whites that care are fat girls that are dating blacks cuz no white kids wil touch them) are *griping* because they say the flag means white supremicy, but i dont take it as that .... its jsut my belief and i wear it to show that im a man of the outside , i belong in the woods , not in the citywhere all the *city slickers* like to reside... this is jsut really bugging me...

I never said anything that should offend anyone , im my personal opinion there is a line even tho t is a fine one , seperating colored people , and the bad word some call them , and there are even some cocasions that are that word...although im not racist i will admit i dont alwasy give colored people the best first impression , and i will admit that , but by no means did i say anything that should make anyone get ticked.....

And if so , people should realize that there is MUCH MUCH worse to refer to this topic as , so it is toned down already.

once again you have my sympathies , but in this matter you don't have the last word , the school does . Perhaps you could get your parents to protest the matter with the school or BOE since the dress code doesn't specifically mention the confederate flag . Having had experience in that area from both perspectives I wish you luck .

Civil disobedience and publicity are your only other recourse , and you're very unlikely to get sympathy from the overly PC public or the liberal lefty media .

Yea friday to school we r having FLAG DAY where all of the kids that have gotten in trouble , and some others are all wearing confederate shirts, we have about 25 kids so far ... the next step is school board , a few parents are already mad , and gathering info up on how it is unconstitutional , and how there is nothing banning it in the school handbook...

The principals new excuse is that it is a double meaning , and that it is refering to the white supremacy issue , i dont see how that BATTLE flag is refering to white power do u?
just because slavery was in the south doesnt mean thats wut the flag stands for , i mean if thats the case you shouldnt be able to wear german flags since of the whole hoolocost deal, i jsut think people arent thinking this out , they see it as one way , and thats it !

I understand how you feel about this, but you also have to look at it from another perspective. The principal is obviously interpreting the flag as a representation of how The South used to support slavery, and thats probably why he or she thinks its wrong....which is stupid[:'(]

Hopefully your parents could help you out with this issue or something.

if you're truly serious in your convictions then protest and do it loud . You'll need far more than 25 kids to have any hope of prevailing , and even then the BOE is likely to slap it down .

I attended high school just in time for them to desegregate our schools in 1976 , and the confederate flag issue never really came up . I frequently wore them on clothing to school and flew one on my wall at home . Things are a lot more PC now , people other than white have grown increasingly sensitized and vocal about what offends them , even when they don't practice what they preach .

To be honest , the only compromise that I see having a chance of working is for your whole school to go to wearing uniforms . Then you won't have anything more to fight about and the BOE will pass it without blinking .

I hate to be a wet blanket Coonhound Gal but your parents , whose taxes pay for both the school and the teachers , have about the same chance of getting rules changed as you do . Virtually none without court intervention , and the courts usually side with the school unless it's on the scale of Brown vs. the BOE .

As ridiculous as some dress codes seem or are they exist for a reason . The reason usually cited is to promote order and avoid distraction . Whether or not the students , or even their parents , agree with them the school has every legal right to enact a dress code . It has nothing to do with "bending over and taking it" , that comes later when you meet the IRS . ;)

The forces of conformity are powerful , and generally have the support of the BOE and the courts . Considering what symbol is at issue here , and the resistance to it , the phrase "snowballs in ... " well , you get the idea . I find it ridiculous too .

We dont have many southern flags here up Nawth in Wisconsin, but i bought one on our school trip out east and hung it in my hotel window in Gettysburg, PA, and Washington DC...nobody minded..nor told me to take it down...even has I AINT COMING DOWN on it too lol...i dont think you can outlaw a country's flag on a t-shirt. tell black people you dont wanna see their big blings or gangsta clothing because you take offense to it.

The point that I am trying to make is that freedom of speech is fine, as long as it doesn't infringe on another citizen's right to live, free from threat. If your best friend makes a comment about a bomb in an airport, you could shrug it off and not think anything of it. On the other hand, if your job is to patrol the airport and defend it of any wrong doing, you would likely have a much different reaction.
My dad is from the south, so I understand the symbolism behind the rebel flag. What we need to remember is that the meaning for one person could have a totally different meaning to the next.
I'm not a fan of the baggy African clothing that you mentioned, but do you feel threatened by it? If so, why? Many people who feel threatened by the rebel flag could have very good reasons why they feel the way they do. Just put yourself in the other person's shoes. I try to live by the golden rule- treat others the way you would like to be treated. Not to over react. Not to be hyper-sensitive. Just think about how others might feel.

Jimbo those are some real good points , but i still have to say , that their clothing offends me ... if they wear a malcam X shirt , i have the right to say hey , he didnt like whites or something to taht effect, but in other ways , just for being baggy i cant say anything ... also if they r wearing something that offends me by showing too much of themseves ( mainly black girls) then i also have the right to not be subjected to seeing that ... so it can go both ways as u said , and it is all on how u think of it , but believe me i will put some thought into this , so they better jsut wear plain shirts and pretty nice fitting clothes .

I live 46 miles from the first capitol of the confederacy (Montgomery, AL) and wearing cloths with the "rebel flag" on it isn't that much of a deal with black people. One of my good friends is black, a redneck, and a hunter. He wears them all the time because he understands why most people around here wear the flag, BECAUSE WE ARE PROUD TO BE SOUTHERNERS AND WE LOVE IT HERE. Alot of people up north and in big cities discriminate against the south and southerners (blacks and whites), just look at every movie with southerners and how we are portrayed. It shames me:( that people actually think southerners are like the people in Deliverance. Meanings of things can change over time. To some people the flag may mean that they are racist, but not to most southerners and not anymore.
Here is my favorite dixie outfitters shirt, i wear it all the time because i am proud to be a southern bowhunter.

I just don't see where anyone can tell you not to be flying Dixie. I live in Canada and wear the stars and bars no less than 4 times a week.I'll blatantly put it in anybody's face and to hell with them if they don't like it.....I make that VERY clear.To those that find it offensive, good....don't look at it if you don't like it!I've gotten really tired of blacks whining about not getting a fair shake in life and it's all whitey's fault....give it a f@*k!^& break already!!! Nobody alive today had any of their relatives as slaves.It's OK for them to be yapping about black supremecy but for a white boy to take a stand....thats racist, BS!!!
