They are both about the same preformance wise. The ' 06 has a little more power. I have a 7mm rem mag and thats got plenty of knock down power even out to 400 and 500 yards. If you are going to buy one thats what i would choose. Anyways good luck to you.

30-06 definatly. Its an " all around" gun
its like the 12 gauge of rifles. You can find bullets just about anywhere and it has the range and power for most everything in the U.S.

Either gun would work, but I' d take the .308 myself, its a better long range cal. than the 30-06, of course I don' t know exactly what kind of situation you' ll be hunting in, you may not even be making many long shots for all I know...

Both are great cal.' s, and both have a huge variety of bullet weights, from 80 grain or so on up to over 200, so there' s a wide range. Personally, I' d take the .308, I think they' re more accurate and like them better, but that' s just me.

6 to 1, 1/2 dozen to the other...
Both loads will work for elk, just place a good shot on em...the 308 is the same load basically, but it' s got a smaller bullet...giving it a little more range. My dad uses a 308 to deer hunt, I use 30-06, both will do the job...good luck!
