RE: Benelli sucks.
I can see why a lot of people like goose hunting, but geese are way too slow and easy to kill. I love ducks a whole lot better because they are harder to kill, much faster, and IMO theres no bigger rush than watching a wad of ducks buzz your spread and commit.
Any kind of waterfowl hunting down here is EXTREMELY tough and expensive... most hunters down here hunt deer, turkey, coon and rabbit. You'll be amazed at how many duck hunters don't know what the hell they are doing. I'd say about a third of all mornings are interrupted by people fishing, hiking, or rubberheads barreling past your spread 5 minutes before shooting time flushing your birds up  That being said, I LOVE a challenge. Deer hunting is way to easy for me. Waterfowl on the other hand takes persistance, stamina, patience, and is much more strategic. This year, I've only killed 2 greenwing teal, 2 bluewing teal, 4 woodies, 4 geese, and ringer. Another 5 ducks weren't able to be retrieved. Theres nothing I hatemore than not finding your bird. |
RE: Benelli sucks.
Chris, where I hunt, ducks are much easier to kill. I also think that decoying geese is much more of a rush than decoying ducks. To me on my scale of rush (:D) ducks are closer to doves, and geese are closer to turkeys. Obviously personal preference. I'll second you on not being able to find birds. It's nothing short of amazing how they can dive in a foot of water, and you never find them:eek:

RE: Benelli sucks.
YeahRory that almost happened during early teal season. One of the bluewings that I shot dove in 6 inches of water and I couldn't see under the water because of the glare of the sun. It wasn't until I saw his the white on his speculum when I dove and picked him up. One of the greater reasons for unretrieved birds is not owning a dog. We almost didn't retrieve the two ringers because the mud was so soft, you'd sink 4 feet into the mud but only be in a foot of water. My buddy ended up literally swimming out there likea dog to get those ducks. Another woodie I shot this year fell into head high marsh grass, and we never found it either. I remember SwampCollie telling me that he'd never lost so many birds in his life while hunting in SC.
