who here has a muzzleloader?

i have been toying at the idea of getting a muzzleloader for awhile, today i shot a friends thompson center omega with thumbhole stock camo and stainless steel. it put him back about 800 bucks. needless to say im interested in getting a good muzzleloader for a LOT LESS than that, but one that i can shoot accuarely up to 100-200 yards. what kind do you havew and do you have any reccommendations?

RE: who here has a muzzleloader?

My .50 caliber Hawken style muzzleloader is my favorite gun. It's a traditional style caplock. I'm pretty sure I'm getting a caplock pistol to match it just like my husband's for Christmas.

Traditional style muzzleloaders are really good only to about 100 yards. Excuse me, I know I'll start a debate, but the gun you're describing isn't really what was meant when they approved the special season for "muzzleloaders." In my opinion, if it's not a traditional style muzzleloader, it's not a muzzleloader.

I have a New Frontier Beartooth Magnum, which is the same gun as the CVA Wolf, just a different name. I got mine bare gun for $150, and after I put a scope on it was still down around $250. The Wolfs are the same price. I'd highly recommend them, especially for the price. I killed my buck with mine this year, my dad killed a big 6 with mine last year, and my dad's killed 3 deer with a Wolf this year. Check 'em out.

Mossy you didn't know, your shotgun loads from the muzzle to, you just stick the round down the barrel and press the loading trigger down by the action, it's sorta shaped like a quarter moon:D

evan despit the fact that ML are really cool on the property that u hunt there isnt a range longer than 80 yrds to shoot esp. because u claim to have 2 in. groups with your Shot gun at 100 yrds. i dont know that it is a necessary item JMO

You usually miss quite a bit, we expect it from you :D I believe he's telling Mossy 11 in a nice way that he doesn't need a muzzleloader if he's shooting the groups he says he is at 100 yards, especially on a property that the longest shot will be 80 yards. Do i need to make a picture in paint? ;):D[8D]

if you purchase a muzzleloader install the 209 shotgun primer caps do no trust the precussion cap nipples

No need to go to that bother. Just remember to never use Remington #11percussion caps. Always go with CCI Magnum #11 caps.

Get a CVA optima pro 209 magnum in 45 cal. I have one and with a 3-9x32 scope i can shoot 2 inch groups at 200 yards, and it shoots flatter than a 50 cal.

yeah i know. after the youth hunt with a friend of mine we had to shoot the muzzleloaders off and i was using his cva bolt one and it had a percussion cap nipple and first time i shot it it just clicked. there not good. then i shot his tc omega with 209 shotgun primer caps and it shot first time.
