one thing people fail to realize about rap is that mainstream rap isn't where the good music lies...listen to a couple songs by talib kweli or common; listen to the religious, political and philosophical questions which are proposed, debated and spoken about...now the beats may not be for some, however, when listening to the words, most anyone will have to step back and ask themselves questions about their own moral foundations....

when i was younger i used to have that ignorance to think that one genre of music was "stupid," however, having matured, its hard for me to believe that there is any kind of music that is essentially bad...take rap for example, some would say that rap songs promote violence, womanizing, etc...however, people who believe this are only saying that they are too weak to make their own decisions and they are so easily manipulated that they will let the words of a song persuade them to act in a certain way..

oh well, this was quite the unnecessary tangent just being a fan of country, rap, rock, etc it annoys me when people say they can't stand entire genres of music
