Contest Rules

Just putting my imput in, i think you hould get more points for using a bow, and for buck size as well.

RE: Contest Rules

ok I was thinking that as well I will make a change. I think will add 1 more point for bow kills. As to not make the contest too hard for the kids that dont bow hunt.

Siman08/OH 07-20-2007 11:05 PM

RE: Contest Rules

sounds good

Mdbowhunter16 07-20-2007 11:05 PM

RE: Contest Rules

I am not going to make more points for buck size this year because i am thinking it will make it very hard for the younger hunters.

RE: Contest Rules

ok thats cool

RE: Contest Rules

How are bow hunters superior to any other type of hunters?

Mdbowhunter16 07-20-2007 11:25 PM

RE: Contest Rules

They arent superior, it just takes a little more to shoot a deer with a bow because of the yardage factor. People with rifles can shoot a deer from up to 300 or more yards away. With a bow most peoples max shot come out to be around 30 to 40 yards....If the extra point for a bow kill makes a stir we might have to have a vote or something. What do you guys think? Extra point or no?

Siman08/OH 07-20-2007 11:40 PM

RE: Contest Rules

I vote for the extra point. Becouse i spend all season scouting and getting ready just to get a buck at 20 yards. I know kids who only go into the woods during deer gun season and kill up to 5 deer in a week and it invlolves very little skill. If im scouting my bum off and practicing archery everday and its worth the same as the city slicker who walks into the woods and shoots the buck at 300 yards then something is wrong.

Then again, it is a contest just for fun:D:Dso maybe im overeacting:)

squirrelkilla23 07-20-2007 11:58 PM

RE: Contest Rules

I think no, there shouldnt be any extra point. What about shotgun hunters? What about pistol hunters? And not everyone bow hunts. I do both, and i've only got one deer to show for 3 years of hunting in ohio, mostly because i pass shots, yes. but i've had more chances at deer bowhunting then gun hunting. I still feel it's making bowhunting sound better than gun hunting. I support both, but i feel they should be equalized. and most "kids" cant draw back enought draw weight to shoot deer with bows anyhow. i'm 14 and i can draw 70 pounds, but i'm big for 14. some kids here that are 11, 12 cant do that. I say equal points, but i'm not participating in this one, i'm just voicing my opinion. It's your call

RE: Contest Rules

i agree no extra point for bow hunting, this will be my first year bow hunting, and i hope to get one but i dont think it should be an extra point..like what was mentioned before...what about shotguns and pistals, and muzzle loaders arent real long range, plus i have only taken two deer with my rifle past 30 yards... and you post before where he said people going in the woods and shooting deer at 300 yards????????what kind of woods can you see 300 yards in?
Of those two does in my picture to the left one was shot at 15 yards and one at 30 yards, both broadhead, both VERY good bow shots, but i was using a rifle... i vote NO for the extra bow point

Mdbowhunter16 07-21-2007 01:05 PM

RE: Contest Rules

Ok... From the Pm's I am receiving not to many people like the extra point for a bow, so there will be no extra point.

terbzz 07-21-2007 02:51 PM

RE: Contest Rules

n stead of givinga extra point for archer just give an extra point for who ever shoots a deer within 50 yards

squirrelkilla23 07-21-2007 04:51 PM

RE: Contest Rules

that's dumber than the bow point:D

BowHunterJim 07-21-2007 06:59 PM

RE: Contest Rules

no the extra point is needed for first year hunters. In my area i cant hunt witha gun. Im withdrawing fromt his competiton. dorry for any screw ups it may causse.

RE: Contest Rules

Ok no extra will be ok. I was just thinking of the bowhunters. And by the 300 yards comment, it was like a figure of speech.

Bloodsaw 07-22-2007 12:04 PM

RE: Contest Rules

Well being a new bowhunter im thinking of them also but i dont see where they should get more points just from a close shot when ALOT of deer are taken up close by other weapons also. As far as the 300 yard comment i know it was a figure of speach thats why i pointed it out it just doesnt make sense [8D]. I WILL said i have killed one doe at 225 yards im not anyr more or less happy about that kill than any other, also i have a doe kill at 70 yards ( i consider it one of my best kills as far as skill goes, but thats another story ) the rest have been up close and personal kills as i rarley hunt anything but very small green feilds out in the woods or just rondom places in the woods against a tree ( public land ).Also i agree on one hand and disagree on the other hand abut buck size, some states the bucks are bigger period, and also it may be harder for a kid ( some ) to get a buck or a nice one, BUT i think spikes should be worth same as does then anything under a certianscore ( starting with anything that has at least one fork )worth a set number of points and anything over a certian score should be worth a set number of points. maybe its too late to go to changing the rules around but thats how i think it should be i think the current rules about all bucks being worth the same just doesnt make sense, BUT thats me

and here is a question it may have been listed but i cant remember do you have to put in your FIRST kill into this contest or can you go with your second or third kill or w/e, because i usually take a doe first..

RE: Contest Rules

ok. Thats cool.

RE: Contest Rules

how can people sign up....and whats the rules.

Also on the Extra Point..I think it should be 5 points..the reason why is becasu there is so many things that can go wrong....for Example if you hit a small limb the arrow will be deflected when a bullet doesn't get as much damage.Also....a deer can jump and start to run whenever they hear your bow..when you shoot a gun it gums out 1150fps or more when a bow don't go more than 350fps..thats a big difference!!

Mdbowhunter16 07-22-2007 10:48 PM

RE: Contest Rules

Everyone can sign up on the post at the very top. It says official young hunters deer contest sign up and the rules are there also.
