Default Science class

Hey folks i am in University studying to become a teacher and have an assignment which i could use your help on. I would like you to tell me what you think the goals of a science program should be in your school. list about 3-5 if possible. eg. hands on learning, basic skills, new technology, opportunities for all, creative projects etc. Rank whatever your goals are in orderaccording to their importance to you. Also tell me briefly what you like and dislike about your science class. Thanks a bunch. this can be plain jane science, physics, chem, bio etc.

Default RE: Science class

I think that one of the main things that would make science much more intersting is things that apply to daily life. In my high school biology honors class we learn nothing but minute parts of dna strands and so forth. I think that there should be a section once in a while that really used something that applied to everyone and could always be helpful knowledge for anything. Regarding the projects, I find that things are much easier to undertand when labs and projects are involved, even if they are things like Dna replication and protein synthesis in cells. The most boring things can really be understood in a fun way when truly interesting projects are involved. A third thing is hands on learning. I think that with all the new gadgets coming out and electronics, people are becoming much more hands on. Most people really need to do things themselves a couple of times before they can truly grasp it. This also means that teachers need to force kids to do things hands on because some are too afraid to speak up if they don't understand, and those are the ones that end up doing poorly. If these things are mandatory, it will click in their head and science will be much easier. This applies particularly in science, where things are so complex. I'd say the average person cannot get most scientific studies by just taking notes that the teacher wrote. That is the major thing that I dislike about my science program. It is mostly notes through the week, followed by a test on fridays. If it is a tougher chapter, we wait a little longer. Most poeple can agree with me when I say this method is extremely boring. Anyway, just my two cents, man. Good luck with everything!
