You're joking, right?

He probably isn't. That is pretty much the best thing you can carry for bear protection.

Well, considering he's talking about carrying it during archery season, I really hope he's joking. I feel weighted down just carrying my bow, pack, and the .44 when I'm hiking around chasing elk. I can't imagine what it'd be like with a shotgun.

Well not only that but it's probably illegal to carry a shotgun during archery season. It may even be illegal to carry a .44 you may want to check with your state agency.

that's how it is in florida. during archery you can't have any firearms of any kind of you, if i'm not mistakened.

That's how it is in Washington as well, but due to an increase in the number of cougar sightings on our property I've taken it upon myself to carry a little extra protection. I'd rather break the law than tangle with a big cat with a buck knife.

Mind you this is taking place on private property and it was the landowner who suggested I carry it. After having a couple cows attacked he decided he didn't want to see someone he liked killed by a cougar.

Do not, I repeat do not do this. Mine is an extreme case and under other circumstances I wouldn't dream of it.

i can't say that i blame you. i would probably carry one too in that case. we don't have cougars where i am but there are some rather large yotes and bobcats up in kentucky. i'm not sure if you can carry a firearm during bow season there? do here in florida though we have bobcats and hogs. both of them can be a problem every now and then.
