strategized treestands

i want to build a couple of permanent bowstands this spring in close proximity to a funnel between a bedding area and a food plot... anybody have any cool stands pics, ideas, or input concerning bowhunting from a "tower stand" as opposed to a treestand?

also, i'd like to build 2 additional tower stands for my rifle hunting buds... i'd like my rifle tower to comfortably seat two grown men, be weatherproof (if it rains, i'm not wet!), and have window that can be quietly opened or closed... any comments or insight would be appreciated..

here's a stand i built a couple summers ago outta' cca lumber and galvenized lag bolts. it's only 10 feet to the platform, but w/ a few cedar boughs added to break up my outline, it works fine (not to mention rock solid 4'X 6' platform)..

i cut every osage orange tree i found on my property last summer, with one exception.... this old hedge tree had quite a few broken, but alive, limbs from an ice storm a few winter back.. the stand is 18' from ground to platform and was built using osage orange limbs and galvenized lags for support and cca treated 2x6's for the platform.. (very solid design)

here's a couple of interesting stand sites:

I lie awake at night strategizing treestand locations - and The perfect tower blind for Hunting and filming deer.

Here is an example that DID NOT WORK!

We had this little shooting house - and decided to build a 16 ft "tower" for it. We did a good job building it - but the weight of the building proved to be too much. I'm sad to say that when erecting it - a leg busted at 12 ft. - it was just too heavy to "stand up".

We are going to re-build the leg - and try to "stand it up" at 12 ft in the spring. Right now its in a heap in the field.

I think it would have been GREAT - had we built once it was in the air - but not like we tried to do. - We even tried the Crane Truck in the picture - but it still busted. All the weight shifted to one leg when it was almost up - and that was the end of it!

Built this one from plans I got from this site: http://www.deerblindplans.com/index.html
Both me and the wife hunt in this one, I have a swivel seat and I put a fold down seat in it for her. It is heated. The reason for the legs is I am in the ozarks and mostly rock so hard to anchor plus it makes it hard for trespassers to push over. Won't work good for bow unless you make bigger windows. Getting ready to make another one. Good luck

Hello,
If you put horizontal braces just below and just above your cross bracing, you will have a stronger stand leg. I'm a union carpenter and heavy highway and concrete highrises are my specialty. I know shoring and think this will help you. I built a mold for an outhouse style shooting house. I'm presently putting together some photos. It is made of fiberglass and the legs are made of steel. I'm presently taking orders for this fall. Cost is about a third of cabelas.

Till our trails cross,
WW

Made this tower stand last winter,,,the floor in the tower is 21 1/2 ' off of the ground. The building is 5' x 8' with 42" sliding windows in it. Not only is it a good hunting stand it works well to video tape out of. The stand sits on the ridge of a corn field and I have 2 ladder stands on each edge of the field.,,,,,,SAWDUST

The pole is buried in the ground 8' and on top of that I made a steel deck with 12" and 3" channel iron. I installed treated 2x4 in the channels and put my deck on that,,studded up the walls like a house and added the steel siding,,,put some thin carpet on the floor to reduce any noise made from the folding chairs or if I droped anything. Then I put an Lp heater on a 20 # tank and stuck it in the corner. There is plenty of room for 2 people. It will be a nice place to take kids youth hunting because they can move around a little, Where the pole goes in the ground,,I dug a 5'x5' hole 18" deep and filled it with 2 yds of concrete ,,,otherwise the wind would just keep working the hole bigger and bigger,,,,,SAWDUST

Sawdust I think the FAA would require you put a blinking light on that as an aircraft warning j/k.. A few years ago we took out 2 rows of lima bean posts that were 10 ft long 4x4, and rather than throw them away I made some deer stands in fact I made 4 stands that we can move around, haul around, from farm to farm, as needed. I framed them up 5 ft at the base and 4 ft at the top so they wouldn't tilt over and put good comfy seats on them. Everyome refers to them as the "lifeguard stands" as that is exactly what they look like, but they are very comfortable to sit in for long periods. The only problem is they are not covered , nor weather reistant... just being a little resourceful with some used lumber and my air nailer.....

now that's a tower stand!

i had a couple of ladder stands built outta' metal... they're 16 feet from ground to the 3' by 2 1/2' platform.... i'm planning to get a few more to bowhunt out of next year, even though they are pretty darn heavy and awkward to place... i'll take heavy and awkward, though, b/c these babies are rock solid and about as comfortable as i've found to keep my fidgeting to a minimum..

i'd like to build an enclosed tower for my friends who rifle hunt. i was thinking about using a large plastic container for a weatherproof enclosure. i've found 375 gallon storage containers (48" x 44" x 56" 50 cu/ft) which might work.. something kinda' like this:
