RE: when to plant corn?

You need to find out from your local agricultural office what the date of the last frost is. If you're a gambler you plant just after because corn doesn't like cold soil. It's safer to plant a few weeks after if you're soil moisture is adequite. If you have heavy clay you try to find a time after the last frost that you don't bury the tractor.

If you wanted to there is some corn that should grow in 60 days to reach machurity.

Generally the first half of May is the ideal planting time for corn in the midwest. As far north as you are, you will probably want to go with a 90-100 day variety. Talk to a local seed company. Tell them you want something for a wildlife food plot, and would prefer something with good standability and stalk strength, and medium plant height. The high performance hybrids farmers normally use have tall spindley stalks that won't stay standing late into hunting season like what you're looking for.
