I say spread it if you already have it.

RE: Is it ok to
Like you've heard in some of the posts to your topic. It would have been nice to soil test to see exactly what you need. ie fert & lime. Are you sure the pH is 6.0. My suggestion is put out as much lime as possible and throughly work into the soil. The more lime you add (there is no way to add too much) and the longer you disk the lime in the soil the quicker it will work. On the Imperial Clover field I would save the 10-10-10 and go with 6-24-24 at 3-400 lbs acre (equilavent). Use the 10-10-10 on the Extreme. At least 400 lbs per 1/2 acre.
Concrentrate the lime in the clover fields, from what i've read, the Extreme should be fine without any if the pH is at least mid 5's. Mine is in 5.8 but I added a ton of lime per ac. Keep the seeds on top of the soil and remember to add 34-0-0 to the Extreme after it gets up a few inches. It made a big difference in my test plot this past spring. I still suggest soil testing now, even after planting. It will tell you how bad you missed the soil needs. ID the crop as alfalfa or white clover for a recommendation that will cover the clovers. If you missed the P and K you can add it over the exisiting plants. Good Luck, I hope the pH was at least as good as you think or close or even with the lime you may have a slow growing field until the pH comes up a bit. |

Thanks popgunwill.
You guys really know your stuff. I am planting tomorrow. I will let you know how it turned out. |
RE: Is it ok to
Hi
Just an input, I prefer to add 27-0-0 (CAN) Calcium Amonium Nitrate, that reduce the acydifying effect of the fertilizers because the amonium nitrate is coated with lime. You know, plant use Nitrate as nitrogen source. So if you add ammonium, this one need to be nitrified (conversion of ammonia to nitrite and to nitrate) before assimilation by plant....this conversion is made by microorganisms in the soil and It's an acidyfying process.... Just my 2 cents Yann |
RE: Is it ok to
Got the seed planted and limed. I was counting on the rain on saturday to bury the seed but it only did a little bit. We did not have a drag available. Worried about the birds eating my seed. Plots look good though. Helps when you have the right tools i.e. tractor and a disc. Hopefully the plots will be easier next time to redo.
Thanks for your help. I post pics when ready. |
RE: Is it ok to
The Imperial clover is already coming up. It is spotty though. The non brand clover seems to be doing better than the Imperial - at least a this early stage. We were supposed to get more rain on Saturday than we did. The Extreme has not sprouted yet nor has the Biologic. I raked those fields with a fence to bury the seed. Crows were eating it. Hopefully the rain next week will help jump start it.

RE: Is it ok to
The imperial clover will take a bit to really get going. Mine was in about month before it started to come in thick. Now it's knee high and although the deer are in it I've found the deer prefer the Imperial Power Plant to the clover. The powerplant was about 5 feet high at it's tallest point and they've mowed it down to about 2 feet tall now. It's pretty amazing. Keep us posted on how things work out.
