I am hoping to have A food plot for the hunt season. But, Also have Year round feeding in mind. I am new to all of this. I have A disc and tiller to work with. I'm working 2 acres. It was seeded with I guess Pasture grass A few years ago. It was an area cut out of pine trees in N. Florida. I disced the grass last weekend and plan to again this weekend and next. My plan is to plant some Iron & clay cowpeas And sorghum to start. My question's 1. Will the grass go away. 2. Is there an alterative to A cultipacker. I don't have one. 3. How deep with seed.
Any advise is appreciated. It's getting rain almost daily. I'm anxious to bury some seed. Thanks.

I'm not famiar with growing conditions in Flordia. However, I can answer most of your questions I think. The grass won't go away. I would suggest you use Roundup on it if you want it all gone. If the soil is moist and you are getting showers plant an inch or so deep. If its dry you can go to 3 inches probably where they will get more moisture. YOu dont need a cultipacker. If you have a drill or planter you can go that route or if not you could broadcast on top and disk them in.

roundup is about the only way to get rid of the grass totally.wait till it starts to come out again then spray it and wait a couple weeks, disk.then broadcast your seed then disk lightly again. I plan to plant rye and coker227 oats in my plots.
hope for rain.

i'd have to agree with them on the roundup thing it really is the only thing that will truly rid ur plot of the grass i did it on 1 of my plots and it worked great and the feeding year around that is a great thing to i started that abt a year or so ago and the deer go threw it .... do u have any ideas what types of feeders u r going to use ?
