RE: Understanding Fertility

This year I had to add 900 #'s of 0-46-0
and 300 #'s of 0-0-62 per plot
Even if your P was very low, clover uses 3-4 times more K than P. But remember, P & K levels will only decline when the clover (crops) are removed. Deer may be removing some P &K as they feed, but are depositing P&K in their waste. Basically, once you get the P&K up to recommended ammounts for clovers, you should not need to add that much again.

P & K are rather immobile in the soil, they do not leach away like Nitrogen, and should be incorporated into the soil to be fully utilized.

Stone...indeed follow the recs...what you want to try to accomplish is to raise those test resultsOVER IME...not like tomorrow!! When you add the fertilizer, there are soil chemistry reactions that take place that break down the material slowly into componants that are refered to as "available" in soil science terms...so add what your tests show and ...personal opinion based on experience...I would test soils again in two years...that gives your material time to become available and will save you time and money in the long run.

That makes me feel a little better.

Does anyone know off hand what peas and these type of plants need as a total per acre?

general rule..all legumes are close in terms of nutrient needs...low N, higher P and K, Grasses...higher N med P and K
