Practice makes perfect, but here's a couple things I used to do.
Get a bag of sand and mix it with the seed. I know several people that use fertilizer to mix with the seed, but sand mixes better.
Or use a spreader that is capable of handling small seeds. I like this one...http://www.amazon.com/Solo-421S-20-P.../dp/B000BWZD0O

I've tried sand with the seed, didn't work to well especially is the sand is damp at all, if you use sand make sure it is absolutely dry. I seed as thin as possible and after a couple of weeks run a spring tooth drag SLOWLY thru plot, seems to work well.

Well I have also started growing seeds but unluckily it is not getting germinated. For that I have used sand and dumped all around the plant. Now I can hope for some kind of planting a tree. I am also very happy about it.
