Default Poke Salad?

Hey yall,
I posted something about this in another forum but i was going to ask here if there is any nutritional value for deer in poke salad??? the deer around me in Central Al. seem to eat it alot in the early season and i was just wondering if they were on it for nutritional reasons or if it was only because our food plots were not established and the acorns werent falling yet??? I feel like knowing this will help me decide whether or not its worthing tryin to hunt once our plots get established or not...

Are you referring to poke weed? The tall plants that have purple berries on them this time of year? I'm sure all areas are differnt, but around here they aren't something I would hunt over. I'm sure there's some minimal nutritional value to them, but not much.

yeah same stuff.. ive just always heard it referred to as poke salad around here ha. Deer seem to eat it pretty heavily down here but it would be pretty hard to pattern them on it due to its abundance

Always heard deer eat it, not so much here though. Too many soybeans I guess.

Deer will eat it when the leaves are small and tender. They usually do not eat the mature leaves probably because they have a bitter taste.

i grew up eating polk greens and polk cooked with pork.
