Default What's This Bulb

I've found a bunch of these in our turnip plot. What are they? Is this rapeseed or a kind of turnip?

It's a daikon: A Japanese radish. Deer love them.

Daikon radish would be my guess too. Also called trophy or groundhog radishes, but they are one and the same. Supposed to be better earlier than other brassicas, but this is my first year trying them.

I do not see very much top on those that you pulled up!

Thanks.

What's the one behind it? The bulb looks the same, but these grow tall stalks. If you notice the deer eat the leaves off the stalk.

Can I eat the daikon radish? Since I picked it, I may as well eat it. The turnips are really good

Yep, they are good to eat. My wife and i grow them for the deer and for ourselves. In the winter the deer will dig a hole 18" deep to get all the radish.

I just sliced it down and had a few pieces. A little rubbery, but good flavor.
