Ragweed...help!
I was walking though one of my food plots the other day, and noticed all this plant coming up. I wasn' t sure what it was. But, it was EVERYWHERE!
I checked around as to what it was...it' s ragweed.
Is there anything I can do, or do I need to do anything?
Currently there is wheat in the field, and I planted ladino, red clover, Lespedeza and bluegrass. The clovers are coming up, the bluegrass has disappeared.
Thanks
Patrick

RE: Ragweed...help!
Here in Va., if ragweed is not the state flower, it certainly should be.
It is easy to control with several different spray materials, but since any spray that is effective on ragweed will also kill your clover, your best bet is to wait until the ragweed comes into blossom, ( but before it sets seeds) and then mow the field. Since it is an annual, it usually will not come back unless you disturb the soil and bring fresh seeds into the germination zone.
By the way, the deer in this area feed on the young ragweed, so all is not lost if you do not get it controlled immediately.

keyshunter answered before I could. I' ll second the advice, let it blossom, there will be alot of it, then mow. Ragweed is an annual, and can come in UNREAL on fresh tilled soil in 1-2 months. If the plot is clover, hardly any will come back the second year ( same goes with mustard, curlydock, and sometimes plantain).
Good luck
