RE: need food plot help
ORIGINAL: mossbergman11/OH would planting beans and corn together be smart? brassicas are good also. as they mature and get frostbit, they will sweeten up and the protein level will increase. the deer will actually dig the roots, an onion shaped bulb out of the ground and consume them. |
RE: need food plot help

RE: need food plot help
With an acre to plant - its really hard to beat clover for a year round plot.
It can handle serious foraging - and will continue to attract through hunting season. Corn & Beans can be a good Idea - We experimented with skipping 4 rows with the corn planter and filling it in with soybeans - makes nice shooting lanes when they feed, but........ the neighbor had 40 acres of soybeans to take the pressure off our small 1-2 acre plots. A 1 acre corn or bean plot can get wiped out in a hurry if you don't have other attractive food sources really nearby. FH |
RE: need food plot help
Austrian Winter Peas works really well for us. We put out early September and once it starts to grow we have a plot that last untill the weather gets warm for use here.

in some cases earlier & later plantings may also be possible. In drought prone areas or dry-land plantings, supplemental irrigation maybe be required. Some items may be grown outside their recommended zones based on local weather & soils. Call your local county extension agent for more information. Here is a comprehensive list of goodies to plant. I still love iron clay peas though but they just wipe them out FAST! [/align] |
