RE: Looking for a good mineral block...
I usually buy the blocks from Tractor Supply. They have deer blocks and livestock blocks. They have all the minerals listed and calcium content. They are 50# blocks and cost $7-$9 depending on which one you get and last a long time.

RE: Looking for a good mineral block...
i did a little experiment last year. I put out a 50# salt block ($4), 50# apple/mineral block ($18) and deer cane ($10). I put them a couple feet away from each other and put a camera over them. salt blew the other two away by leaps and bounds. the deer cane was 2nd and would be worth the money. the mineral block was terrible. i got more cow pictures then deerand i never got a cow picture before that in my 8 years of using trail cams! the deer cane worked ok but it wasn't used as much as the salt and needed be refreshed when the salt block had about 20#s left. so, for my money, you can't beat just plain salt.
that said, i'm going to redo my experiment w/ the home brew mineral lick mentioned earlier, trophy rock and salt this year. we'll see which comes out ahead. |
RE: Looking for a good mineral block...
ORIGINAL: buckmaster You can make your own, It's cheaper in accordiance to volume,it works better, and it attracts better, though Ive never used a trophy rock... I had a 8 pointer in my mineral site 3 hours after making it. Ingredients: 2part Trace minerals 1part Dicalcium Phosphate 1part Rock Salt. My results were unreal, Ive had over 1000 pics already this summer. |
RE: Looking for a good mineral block...
Been using Trophy Rock with fair results, (40-60) pictures a week. Then I thought I had to try something different and put some Lucky Buck out about 3 weeks ago and they have nothing to do with it! Hopeing they have to get used to the smell and will return soon.

RE: Looking for a good mineral block...
ok, i've had trophy rock, 50# salt block, and the home brew mineral lick mentioned above in front of a camera for about 1 1/2 weeks. the salt block is kicking butt again. probably 15 pictures for salt, 1 for home brew mineral, and 2 for trophy rock. i'm sticking with salt.
