Check your states regualtions first. For example Michigan doesn't allow mineral blocks until bow season starts.

I'm using a different block now. I used to get the ones mark "Sheep and Goat", and now I'm getting ones just for goats. None of my herd have kidding recently. I do have a salt block out, but it's the white block....no minerals.
Please clue me in on dry minerals. I've never used them. Does it come in a sack? And when putting out, do I just put it loose in a pan? ___________________________________________ dental marketing east coast fertility |

Salt/Mineral Blocks contain stabilizers mixed in with the Salt and other minerals so they don't break down easy or fall apart in the rain. As they disolve, the Deer will still lick the ground surrounding the block to get at the salt and minerals. You should easily get 5-8 weeks use from a Salt Block depending on Deer traffic thru the area

I've always used just plain trace mineral salt mixed 50/50 with Di-cal, both from the local feed-seed store/co-op. Dig a hole in a clay type soil area about a foot deep and 3 feet across. Pour in about 1/4 of your mixture, add a little dirt from the hole and mix it together, add another 1/4, add some more dirt and dig it together. You will be able to make two licks, about 50 pounds of mixture each. Just add some to the same hole about every 6 months. About $8 per lick.
