Just agriculture grade lime. Apply it as soon as possible as it takes several months to work. Your local Co-Op should have tag-a-long trailers that hold around 4 tons, roughly enough for an acre plot. Be sure to soil test to see how much you need.

Agricultural lime varies according to the area you live in. I was raised in Northern Ill. and lime easy to get. the one thing I did learn is that lime can be used differently by the way it is ground. A very powdery lime will mix quickly with the soil and get faster results. But it don't last. A coarser grade mixes slower but last for alonger time. You have to put a lot more on the soil, though. Ther is one thing you should remember, you just about can't get too much on the plot. Any excess will finally get used up. So, figure a little strong. If you had to choose between lime or fertilizer, go with lime.
