Better question: Is there a coon repellant that won't spook the deer away?

bare metal poles - no problem. They did this on a regular basis. Squirrels climbed it too. Bears just knocked it over.

We have developed a terrible coon problem as well. What I started doing was just putting a live trap about 10 yards from the feed and trapping them one at a time. The trail cam proves that it doesn't spook the deer at all. They don't like feeding with 6-8 racoons on the corn though, I can tell you that.

Grease down the tripod legs with a scent-free type grease. ie. petroleum jelly or lithonum grease.
