Default Patch of Milo and Cow Peas

This is one of six game plots i plantedin lateApril. All of them are the same, milo and cowpeas. Deer are really eating up the cow peas.

"Falcon: What was the planting date on that plot?"

On or about 28 April.

"BTW, thatplot looks great, but do deer eat milo?"

Usually not. But the hogs tear up theplots for the heads as soon as they find it. The quail take up residence in the plots when the seed heads get ripe and the grains fall off. It is a good idea to walk around the plot with a long stick knocking the grains off for the quail.

All i did for site preparation was to disk well, fertilize and scatter the seed. Covered up the seed with the disk. The milo in that plot is much too thick and the cow peas were not planted thick enough.

Think they are in the same family as black-eyed peas and clay peas. They are a vining pea/bean. You can get them at the local co-op. You do not have to use thecommercial seed. Plain old eatable cow peas do just great for seed and are much cheaper, too.
