early, early in the spring. 10-10-10 works great for me. I fertilize the oaks and a couple of persimmons around my stands ever year.
It sure helps the production each year. good luck, you can never do enough to help your heards food supply.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest
remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

In early spring poke holes about a foot deep with a steel bar every 3 ft. around the drip line and pour a cup of 10-10-10 in each hole. Fertilizing male trees isn't going to get you much more fruit so spend your time with the trees that have fruit. Persimmons are deer candy when they're ripe.

Tree spikes or fertilizer are great if you've got the extra money for the same fertilizing effect. The place where these mixes come to play is if there are other nutrients (iron, boron, etc.) lacking. If the tree doesn't respond to 10-10-10 it would be a good idea to get a leaf analysis.

If you think your tree is lacking in iron, dig a few holes around the tree and put a handfull of old rusty nails in each hole. The roots will reach out to the iron if it needs it. I do this to my fruit and nut trees.
