Yes, there is something like this in Pa. and it works. Three points on one side in most of the state with a 4 point minimum in a few western counties. Now if we can get doe hunters to shoot mature doe, the button bucks may live long enough to be trophy class animals.

how would they get more money for this?
Simple. There are 2 ways, actually. Non resident tags are always more expensive than resident. The bigger the bucks, the more non resident hunters, thus more money. Second, raise the price of said tags, both resident and non...chalk it up to supply and demand...whatever.

well even if thats true i still agree with it, i think it defintley should be applied to public hunting land, and also privateareas like where i hunt, since it dont think a buck has ever gotten over 3.5 years old here.

Big bucks = more out of state hunters = more money

The other issueis it drives up value of land. Which = higher property taxes. = more money for the state

Do not even get me started on outfitters, lOL

I don't know i think that i would have to disagree. Sure i like shooting big bucks but shooting buck fawns and spike horns are the best for eating.

One of the area's that I hunt has a 15 inch inside spread restriction it's also 15,000 arces of bow hunting only and P&Y are plentiful. I wish the whole state was like this.

I like the idea as well. I wish Ohio had some kind of restriction as well.

I don't like this kind of legislation.Who are they to tell me what size deer I should be able to shoot,It is absolutely about money and not about hunters. There are plenty that still hunt for fun and not for racks.

I do like to have restrictions that are self imposed.I would alsolike to see my my hunting group adopt it but it will never happen because the farmer wants the deer exterminated so all is fair game.

I prefer that they would handle it as Kentucky does.1 buck per year PERIOD.Unlimited does in way over populated areas(with tag purchase).1 buck and 1 doe on regular statewide tag and bonustags for 2 more does in areas that need it.(most)

This allows the population to me managed while allowing bucks to mature. It is working!!

At least one county in Virginia has implemented an antler restriction. I don't know the details, because I don't hunt in that county. I have mixed feelings about that. Maybe because of my particular situation. I have a neighbor that poaches extensively. He shoots 20 to 30 deer per year and generally doesn't even eat the meat (takes the anlters & leaves the carcass, usually). I'd be lucky to find a buck with 3 points on one side; I rarely see bucks with visible horns, thanks to my neighbor.

cripes, those are the very small down sides to an overall very positive 'problem' for a hunter. do you realize that you are complaining about more big bucks and your land being worth more? ugh!

i would love that exact restriction in minnesota. we've been warned by the dnr that there are big changes coming in the next few years. I'm hoping for that! It's not perfect, because it doesn't protect all the right deer (like a 1.5 year old 8 point with lots of potential). Plus, it protects bucks with poor genetics like a 2.5 year old fork horn or spike. It also doesn't protect button bucks. Like I said, not perfect, but it's the best idea i've heard. i really really really hope we get it.
