Default BioLogic Hot Spot

Anybody use it? Is it really that easy to plant, or do you probably need something to turn the soil over? Did you have any luck with just planting it and not using any fertilizer or anything for pH? Did you protect it from the deer for awhile so it got a chance to establish itself? Details welcome!

i planned about two acres of it this year and plan to plant a lot more next year. I planted one acre of biologic and one acre of frigid forest, just another brand. as of now the greens are about 8" tall and deer are feeding on them every night. i think that in order for a food plot to be highly succesful you would need at least a couple acres for it to be worth your time.
as for plowing the soil. yes, most brands require you to till the soil, although there are a few other options w/ seed that you don't have to; most of which will require you to plant every year. most importantly, you need to lime the soil before planting. it's cheap and easy to do. fertalize w/ 10-10-10 and hope for some rain and you should be in business!

yes, with a pto driven spreader. it takes another person to feed the lime with a shovel onto the conveyor.

the pickup truckand leaf blower method works too.

What are the pickup truck and leaf blower methods? I don't have a tractor or anything, it would be an ATV spreader.

The leaf blower method is simply using the blower to push the lime around.

The truck method, someone drives, and someone shovels...great if you have a teen-aged son...

Hot Spot is decent, but I'm not keen on the mix. I think there are others that can top it, especially at 1/4 acre sizes.

I took the plunge on some Secret Spot from Whitetail Institute and even discovered a local Whitetails Unlimited chapter that rents out a Plotmaster for a weekend, so I'll be set.
