WE planted about 1/2 acre of clover and about 1 acre of biologic and pennington greens but the deer are mowing the clover to the ground any suggestions on how to keep the clover from being hit so hard so it can grow enough to handle the deer herd,They just nip at the other stuff and go right to the clover?

short of fencing it in, or planting more there is not alot you can do. Someone on this thread once suggested topdressing with lime, and that will deter the deer for a few days until the next good rain.

Really though, if this is the first year of the planting, it is not uncommon for the deer to keep it mowed tight. The clover will still establish a strong root system and will be set to grow fast come June next year, assuming its a perenial clover in your mix..

The deer will get to the other stuff as the clover gets down.

Wht kind of clover? There are several growth stimulants on the market to assist the plant in a growth spurt. We know of a person that put chicken wire and chain link fence that he garbage picked around the clover field he planted. Just layed the stuff down flat on the grownd around the field, and the deer would not step on it....

You can buy commercial deer repellant in stores or mix up deodorant soap with water and spray it all around the outside of the planting.
It may work.

There is a good article in the Fall 2002 issue of &quot;Quality Whitetails&quot; (pg 68)describing a repellant that is sprayed on a rope, then hung around a foodplot. One picture shows a foodplot which is partially protected with the rope/repellent, and there is definetely a big difference in the amount of vegetation in the two sections.

Your plot's too small.I have a 6 ac.clover field and the deer keep it mowed down,but it's big enough to keep growing and keep feeding the deer.Last night when I climbed out of my tree,there were 10 does feeding...Small plots take a beating if theres a lot of deer.
