I almost ran over three eight pointers last year in early June here in Texas. They were fully formed, still in velvet.

Here you start seeing buds in April but are really noticable come May on the bucks.

As far as when they stop or reach full growth for the year. Like kshunter August would be about right here since by the second week of sept most bucks have dumped the moss completely!
