Default Very Rare Gun? Help me !!!

I had a fellow give me a gun as part of a deal payoff.
We live in North Carolina, pure hill billy area.
He said the gun was his grandfathers and only been shot a few times.
He said he had been trying to "redo" the gun to restore it to it's original condition.

The ONLY plastic part on the entire gun is the butt plate he added to it last year.

The gun has NO SERIAL NUMBER at ALL.
NONE. It was never filed off, it was never there. I have taken it to MANY gun smiths that have seen it and looked and verified NO serial number.

The ONLY marking on the gun that could be even remotley a serial number says :

No 10

And it is inside the "breach"

The stamp on the barrel says 27v on one side and 47A on the other in tiny little circles.
It says
Stevens Model 940E
Savage Arms
Westfield Mass U.S.A.

It is a model .410

Okay inside Breach with Markin NO 10

look in a gun digest. it should tell you. it used to be in the same situation you are in but it was a winchester .22. write the company and wait it will take a few weeks. chances are you probably have an old gun gun but don't count on it's value to be in the thousands. maybe between $500-maybe, maybe $800. The winchester i have is about 90 years old and in very good condition, but only worth $450. Good luck.

Manufacturers started putting serial numbers on all guns sometime in the 1960's. I think it was part of the Gun Control Act of 1968. Before that it was voluntary for the manufacturers. Your gun looks like a regular shotgun from before that time. Hope this helps. Check out gunbroker.com and you can sometimes find similar guns up for auction.

I have a Stevens double barrel 12 gauge that does not have a serial number. They told me that if it does not have a serial number that it was built between the years of 45 to 65 or close to that. Mine is in great shape and I was told that it was not worth but maybe 200.00 to 250.00. They were not very expensive new.

That is nothing special there. Just an old .410 Stevens. I really like the Stevens single shots and have quite a few. No serial number means pre-1960 (or there abouts).

Value, in beautiful, like new condition would be about $120 or so.
