Default Interesting story on A World Record WT Deer

*** THIS STORY WAS TAKEN FROM WHITETAILS.COM***

B&C No. 2 World Record Typical
Hunter: James Jordan
Harvested: November 20,1914
Location: Danbury, Wisconsin
No. of Points: 10
Score: 206 1/8 Typical
Another photo of this Buck

James Jordan harvested the former B&C No. 1 World record typical buck on November 20, 1914 just south of Danbury, Wisconsin. Held the B&C No. 1 world record for 80 years. The magnificent trophy head was given to a taxidermist, from a nearby town, for mounting. After several months Jim finally went to the taxidermist to retrieve his trophy mount, only to be told that the taxidermist had moved and had not left word on the whereabouts of his trophy. Jim's trophy mount remained lost for 43 years until it turned up at a yard sale in 1958. As luck would have it, a distant relative of Jim's bought the deteriorating trophy mount for $3.00. It wasn't until 1971 that the deer was officially scored and declared the new B&C No. 1 World record with a final gross score of 209 3/8 and a net score of 206 1/8 points. In 1978 James Jordan was officially named as the hunter who harvested this magnificent buck, but sadly Jim had passed away two months before this announcement. The James Jordan buck was the No. 1 World record until 1993 when Milo N. Hanson from Biggar, Saskatchewan harvested an even larger buck, with a net typical score of 213-5/8.

I STILL say that the two most impressive typicals of all time are 1st the Breen head and 2nd the Jordan head. The other record challengers (Hansen head included) are 12 pointers or larger. The Breen and Jordan heads are 10 ptrs. That alone means that they must be HUGE to make up for the lack of two or more extra points they get for scoring. If you havent seen these 2 animals in person you are missing a treat. 30" beams and tine lengths that simply defy description. Almost equally impressive too me is the handful of 8ptrs that score in the upper 170s and 1 or 2 that go into the 180s. WOW is all I can say.

For me its framesize that has the shock value, not final net.

The James Jordan buck certainly is a magnificent animal, and to be the WR for that long of time. Just the sheer size of that 10 point frame is amazing. I've seen a 5X5 with a sticker that went 196 and just the mass that animal like that has to have to score that high is mind blowing.

RedAllison, I completely agree with you! The Breen buck is by far my favorite typical with the Jordan buck coming in second. And, yes if you saw these two deer in person you would have a whole new appreciation for them. I have not seen on pic that does the Jordan but justice, but in person you truly see how massive and big it actually is. And the Breen buck, WOW!

Oh, and if you haven't seen or read about the Flemming sheds, I would highly recommend it! It's another great 10 pointer, and Dick Idol (I believe) did a great analysis on it in North American Whitetail.
