RE: Is Poaching Okay???
What's the matter Big? When you get frustrated, does your brain quit on you and you feel the need to resort to violence? What an intellectual dullard you are.
Who do you think you are anyways? Poking fun at a man for taking care of his kids....how pathetic and ignorant. As far as you and I doing battle, I don't see the need. However if it ever arrises, I am nearly certain the results would be the same as they are here. You would crawl away bruised, battered, and torn. I leave things in the toilet more intimidating than you. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
ORIGINAL: moosehornhunter yours is proof posative that you are doing a great job!!!! posative? Let's see, positive is the word I believe you were looking for. Bear and Bigcountry, please do not let this thread get the best of you. It is obvious that someone who resorts to correcting another's spelling during a debate is desperate. Honestly would a person with such a HIGH I.Q. really spell positive incorrectly? I have enjoyed reading this thread, and I find it entertaining when someone tries to belittle another person for spelling and grammar. Especially when they can't even spell positive!!!!:D:D |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
ORIGINAL: moosehornhunter big sacrafice for your kids, and anyone that would be critical of you for sacrafice.........sacrifice.......Surely a person with 148 I.Q. would know this???? |

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
mossy....you got me bud.....but i did it on purpose. I must admit, it was a feeble attempt at a reaction. And FYI, the only reason I have pointed all this out is because of their condecending remarks to Elk.

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
mossy....it should be arose. Read the thread. You will see how it got to this.

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
I did however spell condescending wrong for real.....

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
ORIGINAL: moosehornhunter Elk...Good for you Bud! I feel the same way. You have obviously made a big sacrafice for your kids, and anyone that would be critical of you for doing it is a little man indeed. The smile on your kids face in that pic of yours is proof posative that you are doing a great job!!!! |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
Wow! I posted on this thread awhile back-back when it was about poaching. But its not even about that anymore. It seems to be about protecting your pride and making sure the person your fighting looses. I think we all (and you know who you are, lol) should go back to talking about poaching.
Now I prefer that none of my grammar gets corrected. |

bigcountry
I guess you and all the men you know put your jobs before your kids. Well, some of the men in the world know what is most important and it sure was not my job [union carpenter]. I am sure you work for the government and you feel your job is way more important than your kids! Maybe some day we can get together and eat. I sure would love to see how well behaved your unimportant children are. It is true that a lot of men can't handle their kids on their own. And I agree, if you can't handle your own kids, you should stay at work and let others raise your children. I totally understand why you think no one should kill deer without a tag for food. You are more worried about being at work than being with your kids. I believe this is one major reason why the usa is in the shape it is in. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
"Oh and the buffalo. We were fairly responsible with them wasn't we?"
The government was responsible for wiping out the Indians also. What is your point? Note: I said deer were overpopulated and far from being extinct. I am not directing this toward you, but anyone who blindly follows and believes the government is an idiot. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
jason, I don't think anywhere in this, people are even remotely saying they blindly follow the goverment???? Indians??? What?
Listen, I was trying to have a calm discussion about this. It went into alot of baiting by alot of people. It went worse and worse. I believe don't put anything here you would say straight to someones face. I hate how the internet protects peoples real identity. Point I was making is sure, your own rules for your own land is a great idea, but the idiots ruin it for us. Only reason for any law is the bad apples. Those bad apples are poachers for us hunters. We pay for others mistakes. Hunters are supposed to be the ultimate conservationist. But attitudes by some who come on here, and tell us he is going to poach today just because of what he read here, don't fair well with me. Deer may be far from extinct, so I think its great we keep up on that. Keep them far from extinct. You know "ounce of prevention" and all. I have been to most continents for work. I have been to Columbia, where they come in the restraunts and throw everyone against the wall at will. Been to Japan, where you couldn't dream of having a gun because they are such a controlled society. Almost every country in Europe where they are far from free by our standards. Hong Kong where they can judge you, off one elected official, not 12 juriors. And this guy can be bought off for any reason. Northern Africa, goes on and on. And I have yet to find a place as well as we got it. In all our imperfections, we should all kiss the ground we are on right now in America. With all the corruption, and BS we hear from the Goverment, believe it or not, they are doing it better than anyone else. Everyone complains and wants more and more. But rarely have they left the protection of these borders to see the alternative. |

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
Look at it this way, If your family is starving, and you think that poaching is a way to get em food, well I don't know about your state, but in Mississippi if you get caught poaching then there goes your gun, truck, and probably you to jail. So how is that gonna benefit the kids?

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
No judge in his right mind is going to condemn a man for attempting to feed his family.
|
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
moosehorn, your half right. no judge is going to WANT to condemn a man for attempting to feed his family. but every judge is going to HAVE to give some kind of punishment unless the law says otherwise. laws aren't going to be bent (usually, there are a few exceptions) no matter how noble the intentions.
this is my last post on this thread PeAcE! |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
Yea Live...It's called "continued without a finding" for a month, and then "Dismissed"................
|
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
I know a guy who used to do that. He claimed it was so he could feed his family. It is hard to understand. 30hrs.=1deer around here 1deer= 150-200lbs. minnimum wage=6.35 6.35x30=190.50 fines=whole lot more than 190.50.
If you can take the time to go out into the woods and hunt deer than why don't you spend some of your energy looking for work. Even if it is mcdonalds. It pays. Back years ago it was different there was a whole lot more deer and work was a heck of alot harder to find than it is today. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
ANDY_0
Where do you live???????? I have 8 to 20 deer in my yard every day. From what I have seen the people that kill to eat kill eazy animals. With 30 hours in the feld you sure would think every guy out there would get cought.I shure do know when I lived in KS there was many MOO COWS killed by the poor, which in turn hurts a rancher. I know in montana there is many people that kill a deer so they have meat to eat with there patatos.I think they kill so it will HELP out with the food bill.Maby just maby there are allready working 60 hours a week but still have a hard time feeding there kids. So they kill a few deer to help feed the kids and wife.I am very very sure if it took 30 hours to find a deer they in no way could do that or would if they could. I do know there is some people in the world that kill 180 bc deer and say they need the meat. I beleave this is the typ of man you are talking about. How else could he spend 30 hours and not find a deer to shoot. I allso think that the people that kill for horns should get cought and loose all of there items. I do know that EVERY persion on this sight has broken the law many many times.Where it was tax dodgeing or speeding they have broken somekind of laws.I know ever day I get in my car I drive over the speed.I allso know there is thousands of people that do not turn in every dime they make over the year. The main thing is people pick out what is a better law to them they do not all think all laws are the same. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
I live in eastern washington county maine. We have a very low deer population. I say 30hrs if you dont get the rare chance of one crossing the road. People still do it every year. I know one guy who was a logger and always kept a .30-30 in his skidder. He shot every deer he saw. He averaged 5-6 deer a year. He has given up the business now due to the low price the mill is paying for lumber. But this man was in the woods every day almost. His only crew was a few buddies and his sons. I know that he never passed up a shot.
Also we dont have many open areas just really thick woods. They are pretty hard to find. I go to camp one week a year 2 1/2 hours away and you see lots of deer. No trophys mostly does and crocth horns. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
A poacher will not always hunt for meat to feed his family, but will also poach on private land sometimes because the game is far better there and also its the adrelian rush of hunting and being hunted at the same time. I know this for a fact. They don't do it just for food. I been there and done it in my younger days when I grew up with the wrong crowd. I would tresspass on ranchers property down south and slip in with a bow, nice and quiet that way. I never hunted out of season but just tresspassed on private property. I did it for more than 10 yrs and got my share of hogs and deer until the law of average caught up with me and I got caught by a deputy sherriff sticking a s.s. 357 in my face, 5 ft from the fence line. Not too good! He locked my arse up overnight and I was charged with armed tresspassing which is a feloney. I got an attorney and had it reduced down to simple tresspassing and after 3 mos. of probation, my record was cleared totally. Not proud of it but I can't change my past. I don't do it now and don't recommend to others as it can be costly. It was like a thrill or a rush to me playing the cat and mouse game at that time. I guess wisdom does come with age. Bobby

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
WHY Not sell the 1200.00 Shotgun or the 5000.00 ATV or maybe the snowmobile...
Boat etc.. I used to live on the Border..... |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
There are considerations to think of about him feeding his family by poaching.............................was the first deer that he seen the one he shot or was he out there poaching for a big rack? When people break the law or do something thats against their morales they try to tell themselves what they have to trying to justify it to themselves.....................bottom line is it's still against the law or morally wrong.
With that being said if I was a Game Warden I would have a tough time writting someone up who was legit on feeding his family & he's actively seeking work or is working. On the other hand the guy out there in his new SUV or brand new F-350 4X4, wearing a rolex & outfitted from Gander Mountain etc...............................I would try to take everything he had including his socks. You may ask where is the fairness in the above which I have written.................Like my Dad says "Fair is a carnival that comes to town in the fall!" |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
I beleave the same way bldhound.
The guys who hunt for horns need to be taken to the cleeners. If you go kill your deer with a weatherby toped with a swarovski scope. Then you are not in truble and could do some thing difrant to live. Most people that shoot for food use a 22 rifle or an old 3030. Feeding your kids it not the same. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
If you have a job and still need to poach game animals to feed your family there is something terribly wrong. And if he doesn't have a job, call him a bum because there are plenty. Or maybe their family needs to eat less. I have the priviledge to eat everything in my house right now but I don't. American's are too fat anyways. The man and his family don't need a 5 course meal every night. My parents get paid good money and I don't even get that. You don't see me out there poaching animals and what-not. I just find it kinda ridiculous no matter his excuse. If he broke the law, excute the punishment for any person breaking that law, maybe it will teach him a lesson and he'll support his family in a law abiding way like the rest of the honest Americans.
Just my 2 cents... |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
Brushchump,
Maybe when you get out of high school, get a job, get married, have kids with a stay at home mother with all of the bills associated with that & get laid off from your job on top of that..........................maybe one day if you're fortunate to live a full life you may have the insight into a subject like this. My parents get paid good money and I don't even get that And if he doesn't have a job, call him a bum because there are plenty Dont be so quick to judge people who are less fortunate as as you are................just be/c someone is down on their luck doesnt make them a bum. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
Amen, Brother Bldhound. Preach on! Speaking as someone who was laid off, I can say you don't have a clue what life is like in the real world Brushchump. It is better for people to think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
KsHunter,poaching is stealing and traspassing!
If your buddy was a mechanic, would you traspass on his property and steal his tools to feed your family? Why not poach beef, it will last alot longer? If a person is going to do it, do it right. What is his family going to eat when he gets caught and is sentenced to 5 yrs? If a man has the .....ll's, don't hit a convinience store hit a BANK! Poaching deer is a PETTY act! |

For someone who is old enough to have heard stories first hand about the great depression, I don't think you were listening. There are times, there are times, there have been times that many people who proclaimed that they would only take the high road and looked down on any that didn't, found themselves on the low road for something as petty as a loaf of bread or a lump of coal. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
I would have a hard time seeing the guy prosecuted fully if he and his family were truly destitute........
Another way he might get a break would be to go to his local police station and/or state police post and let them know he and his family were in need. The cops would surely try to reserve some road-killed deer for a needy family. Trouble with that is that some folks find it hard to ask for a hand-out. Pride can be a powerful deterrent to doing the right thing sometimes. Some folks are not wired to admit hard times. |
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
Poaching NO, survival YES.
|
RE: Is Poaching Okay???
He can hunt during season like the rest of us, can he not? I kill animals during season as does my father that feed our family many nights during the next year. I was just giving my 2 cents. I never called anyone a fool or names ("BrushChump") as you unpolitely did. My opinion is worthless to those who think their opinion is the only "right" one. I was responding the original post and have not read all 28 pages of this post. My bad...

RE: Is Poaching Okay???
You know, if these people have to poach, I wonder how all the other families that don't hunt, (I bet 95% of the poor and laid off) make it. All the inner city people that has never been exposed.
I have a sneaking suspicion that some on here have first hand knowledge on poaching and trying to justify it. Or thier deadbeat parents did it. We were poor as dirt too. But my father like my grandfather, and his father joined the military to keep from poaching or stealing or taking hand outs. None besides my father ever graduated high school. Sure they missed thier family, they all went to a foreign war in which my father gave his life. But its better than having every excuse on why you need to steal to make it. |
