RE: Scared of the dark?

Duckhunter74702 you crack me up. I am taking my son (8 years old) elk hunting with a bow this weekend - Saturday) Unfortunately we are going to be not far from where a cougar was seen a while ago. We'll see who is more nervous - my son, me or the cougar. I know after hiking for a while my son will want either a shoulder ride or piggy back - fatherhood is grand. He Cracks me up.

well lets be fair about this. I dont think you are necessarly scared of the dark as much as a little anxious about the unknown.(am i a diplomat or what? u scerdy cats) No, one morning a lot of years ago I was hunting with my dad and when u hunted with him u got out there early (i mean like 4am on your stand) any way, we didn't have climbers or treestands then so we got in brush or just behind a tree: on the ground. That morning i was leaned back again a bit tree and went sound asleep. A deer came up and i think he or she must have stuck her nose in my ear and snorted. Needles to say i sh@#.I sit there and shook until daylight, and when daylight came i went to the truck. So i know the feeling.

Normally...not really, but next week might be a little different! I was out scouting last weekend and found two bear baits set up along the same trail I use to get to my deer stand.Muzzleloader starts next Monday and I'll be out early.Maybe I'll just ride the quad in a little farther this year!!

RE: Scared of the dark?

I must confess hunting in Colorado a few years back I started into my ground blind wayyyy to early (90 minutes before legal lite) and shined the light in the botton of the blind. THERE was a COUGAR print that was not there the day before when I build it. I looked around and his tracks were everywhere. I knew it would do not good but I set for the next 90 minutes holding my 44 mag with both hands. it was the best pacifier I could find at the time. After daylight I cleaned the dukey from my drawers and proceeded to hunt.

Hey, size may not matter but it sure IS nice!

I was in the Canadian Rockies in a tent camp hunting Mule deer the last two years. The first year there was alot of snow and alot of tracks. Not only couger and wolf but some large bear tracks which our guide said was grizzly. That first day towards dark he took my freind to the other side of this mountain and told me to sit tight and glass this valley. Towards dark I really started to freak out thing of the couger , wolfs and the bear. Then I thought what if they don't come back. I had know idea how to get back to the horses or to camp. They came back after dark and of course I told them everything was cool...

Ok so I get a little creeped out sometimes comin' out at night. Maybe it was that whole "Blair Witch" thing but sometimes your mind can play some games with you.
Never seems to bother me going in though.(until tomorrow of course, thanks! :))
