Thanks so much for supporting young hunters. Ryan really liked the comments all of you made.

Ryan has become my best hunting buddy over the last few years. I now always put two stands up in the same tree and on that hunt we were pretty much back to back. He turned down a shot at a larger 8 point that we have been watching for two years even though I told him that he could take a shot. I guess all of my let them grow up is sinking into the poor kid. He did learn a lesson about how much a buck will let you move in a stand with that deer.

Over that last three years he had shot 3 does and a spike with his .410 and slugs so I told him to just shoot one bigger than a spike.

Later that same evening this 8 point showed up at about 5:00PM. He whispered that he wanted to try to shoot him.

At the shot we couldn't tell if he hit him or not. The deer just easily ran over the hill, but I thought that I heard him go down. Sure enough he only went about 40 yards. It was a perfect lung shot. (Unlike my gut shot on a doe a couple of days later.)

He's planning on shooting the bigger 8 point next year. He says that it will be a 10 point. He'll have competition from Dad on that one.

Since we are novice taxidermists we will mount the deer ourselves. Hopefully I don't mess it up.

Thanks again

There's a story behind every trophy. Great story and great trophy. I can tell you've done a good job coaching, and he's done a good job learning. I think your going to have some serious competition on your hands trying to bag next year's 10 point.

P.S. Good luck preserving the trophy.
