Well I hooked my brother up with nice old deer I might add. After shooting my 8, I felt really bad to be the first to get a buck so I decided to set him up on an exclusive hunt just for him! I talked to him the other day and told him that it is his turn now, he kinda gave me the look and said "yeah yeah", like I am going to see anything anyway. I pressured him into going out last night and loaded him up with equipment and scents and so on..and told him I would pick him up when it was time to come back home. I dropped him off at 2:30PM (that will give him to 5:00PM for a clean shot) and walked to the spot with him. I helped him get situated and told him NOT to shoot anything else other than a buck. He said OK and I left. I drove home (3min drive lol) and started getting busy with things. Before I know it it is almost 5PM and I decide to drive down to pick him up. I had not heard any shots yet so I feared that he might have not seen a good buck, and I was planning where to set him up the next day already hehe. I parked the car and started walking into the woods....I decided to take a 'leak' before continuing any further. Just as I start walking again, oh just about 3 steps, I hear a loud bang! I knew he shot something right away and started running all the way to where he was left. I get there, breathing heavily from running and manage to yell out his name (I am now standing where I left him, but no sign of him) and got a response a few yells later. Phhew, I think. He is OK. I start walking toward his voice and meet up with him. He was standing in an openening and looking around on the ground. The first thing that comes out of my mouth of course is: Did you get him? He responds with a "I think so..." I forgot to mention I had given my Ruger M77 MKII 7mm Mag to him for this hunt, and this was his 3rd round with this rifle, but he has been using our 30-06 for a long time. I automatically assumed he had missed and asked him exactly what happened. He told me he was using the grunt call when 2 minutes later he peeks around the tree to look behind him and see this buck walking out of the brush with his head low. He told me he had managed to turn around and take a shot standing on the steps of the stand. I asked him if he noticed anything unusal with the deer as he made the shot. He told me he saw it make some kind of flip and bolt back into the brush again. "Oh great, he prolly got excited and missed" I think to myself. By this point it is dark and I tell him we should go home and get some flashlights and the dog. We come out and had the dog start where he 'shot' it, and immediatley our dog started sniffing like crazy she started walking towards the brush and stopped all of the sudden and sniffed something on the leaves. We both bent down and looked at it: Blood! We looked at each other and smiled like clowns and proceeded with the tracking. After about 60 yards of crawling and ducking through heavy thick brush, the dog took us into a small open area in the middle of this place, she made 2 circles around a rather large tree and suddenly we were right on top of the deer. So close I would have tripped right over it if it hadn't been for the flashlight. We hug each other and 'high-5:ed' and started debating on how to take it back out...hahaha..
It was one of the best day for me as well as my little brother. Now there is more 'hope' in him to go hunting, and this coming week he has no school for 3 days, so we are planning on taking a few mature does <-- mission accomplished!
Is he happy or what! An old mature 6-pointer, I think this is as big as this fellow will get? I have no idea on the score, dont even know if it will score. But he was wide!

Proud brother and....brother! He had made a gut-shot and the bullet had hit the rib-bone and fragmented inside the body, never exited the other side.

Thanks fellows! It was an odd-looking set of antlers he had, but I am guesssing it might be because of his age? It doesn't look that 'big bodied', but who knows

Hes lucky to have a brother like you.
Congratulations.
Now I really got the fever after seeing deer like that.
With storys like that you could write for hunting magizines.
You make some good accounts of the hunts.

Thanks Jrbsr, I am actually getting interested in wildlife photography, don't know where to start though.
The rut is on, so some scents and calls should bring a buck in for you. Good luck out there!
